Elano

He would get nowhere near this team. Elano is looked through rose tinted, nostalgic glasses. He had some great games, lots of average ones, and a good number of games when he might as well have not been there. Elano sometimes stood out, but this is a far better City team, and he failed to shine for Shaktar and Galatasaray. Deep lying playmaker? He is too lightweight, and hasn't got the fitness, and work ethic to play in a central midfield role. Someone like Fellaini would eat him for breakfast.

Everyone raves about Hamburg and Newcastle and they are quite right to. HOWEVER the week after Hamburg, we played Everton away, and he played a pass from his own box to Robinho on the half way line, it was a volley if I remember right. It was probably the greatest pass I have ever seen. Robinho then took the piss out of their defence and megged Howard.

Elano was an amazing talent when he fancied it, but in my opinion Hughes was the issue, not Elano himself. He was more than good enough to start every game in that team at the time, Hughes was just a wanker.

Totally agree.

Some of the passes he made were ridiculous. He did another similar to the one you describe in the 6-0 bumming of Portsmouth. Volleyed it first time about 60 yards upfield and the ball just dropped at the feet of SWP, didn't even have to trap it. That's what I mean about the flair in the team not being as good now.

Under a proper manager like Mancini I reckon he would've knuckled down and done well, not that I agree with those who say he was lazy, more like he saw Hughes for what he was.

Stood out at the time but wouldnt be anywhere near the current squad. He cant be as good as people make out because look what hes done with his career.

Too lazy could have been much better

Not having that at all. Watched him play with my own eyes thanks and could see how good he was. Who knows why he went to Fenerbache? Could've been many reasons but using that to judge his ability as a player is nonsensical.

The myth about him "only having 3 decent games" is just that, a myth

Another dubious Kia deal with shady financial implications and a player who was never really invested in our club. Cracking free kick against Newcastle though.

It was numpty that was the problem for Elano from the min he got his f*cking snout into the club, that Elano knew more about tactics was an insider joke at the club and thats what set the c*nt off, he was playing him at fullback if at all when the team was crying out for a ball player in the middle.

I said the Bayern game in my previous post but meant the Hamburge game of course, Elano dedicated it to the fans, and we were nicely set up to win it apart from the numpty being the only one in the ground who could not see that leaving Dunne expossed wide open covering against a pace player after he had been booked once was a red card waiting to happen.

We can only thank the gods that he was flirted before he completed the sale of Richards and Hart, and hope his days of getting away with being called a manager are now long over for the good of football

Robinbo was a bad influence on him, some of things them two got up to didn't help.

Elano is the only player from that era who would get in our side. But think he's too old now, would been alrite up till about last season perhaps.

When we sold him i was fuming, another one of them players who we shouldn't have let go.

Had Hughes managing him, didn't help.

Isn't he band for battering a referee back in Brazil? Quality at times, other times he was so infuriating, wouldn't get anywhere near this aside now.
