You can just tell that the quality of Elanos game is hurting a few people tonight. Ha ha.
 
I also think he set the tempo of the game in the first 5 minutes which can often dictate how the game pans out.

He was positive, looking to go forward and link up with Phil, Rob, Superman etc.

...on his day, Elano is a top class player. But, those days have been few and far between since January 2008. You can throw me as many mindless stats about the last 12 months as you want, but the fact remains he's been incredibly inconsistent. Not to mention the fact that for most of last season he couldn't get past 65 minutes in a game.

Once more, he's fucking brilliant on his day, but he's got some serious flaws in that locker as well.

To be honest, today's performance changes nothing. Elano was a good squad player last week, and he will be next week. Other, better, players are going to join us in the coming year. He either gets on to the idea of the "project" and accepts that, or moves on in search of a more important role in someone else's first team.

After his performance, the most important thing is that him and Hughes have kissed and made up so we can get some harmony back in the dressing room.

The more I think about the city squad at present the more I am minded of what the term 'squad' means.

The term 'squad player' seems to have a currency of 'jack of all trades, master of none' (e.g.Sun Ji Hai /vass for us). It also implied First team / Reserves.

The other meaning iis the idea of a squad of equals where careful analysis of each game leads the manager to select the right man for the right job , given the opposition. speEach player is encouraged to beleive in himself as bringing some specialism to the squad but that they are only thereto a high level in the first place because they can do the basics (e.eg pass and go tackle , etc)
Therefore the Wales rugby selectors will choose Stefan Jones v James Hook at outside half (key position) , depending on what sort of tactics, oppo markers they expect on the day.
The ethos drummed into the squad is that the team's victory is the squad's. With consistent winning ways the glory is shared.

Can we not get this mentality into these boys ?
 
Elano had a good game today linking the defence and attack. It is not his natural role but he did it very well. This is even more impressive considering that he has not been a regular starter and has faced criticisms from the manager and the fans. He has shown the grit and determination to pick himself up and perform today. Hopefully he will continue working hard as it is obvious that he is an asset to this team and could be a great squad player for many years to come.

It appears that we have wankers on this forum whose one main objective in life is to stir up shit so that they can knock one off when they see another poster mentioning their name. There is just no other reason for some of the crap that gets posted. Constructive criticisms of the player performances is what makes forums great in that differing views can be expressed and debated. However some of the posts in this thread are far from it and have the sole aim of winding fellow blues up. And that is just not fucking on.

Elano played some good football today and some nice passes, he also worked very hard which was good to see. Today was an easy game and he looked decent but in the prem there will be games when we are up against it and physical teams will rough us up and in these sort of games I'm afraid elano will still come unstuck
