Electoral Fraud.

What should happen in proven cases of electoral fraud in this country ?
ie.
If a candidate standing in a certain ward , but living in another. . voted in each ward.
I think we can all agree that this is electoral fraud..
If said candidate won his/her seat , should he/she be forced to resign ?
Or should he/she be let off with a police caution and be allowed to continue to represent said ward ?
Should his/her defence that they didn't know that everybody only gets one vote be taken as the truth by someone standing in an election ?
Irrespective of which party said candidate represents , should they be stripped of office and banned from standing again ?
Discuss .

He should immediately apply to become a member of the Conservative party and Leave EU. They're good at Electoral Fraud.

Apparently we should just ignore them, if the Brexit thread is anything to go by.

Breaking spending rules is not the same as voter fraud Ric but you know that ;-)

Both against the law though ;)

No doubt.

Interestingly and its something hardly ever reported, the breaching of spending rules in almost every election is not that uncommon when you do a search which given the strict rules we have in place can only lead you to think some just dont give a fuck or are very poor with numbers lol.

The OP is of course rambling on about a Rochdale councilor who voted twice and has received a police caution.

Honestly, they should be stripped of their seat and banned from joining any political party for 5 years with a potential prison sentence depending on severity.

Democratic institutions are only as strong as the public's faith in them. Undermining any democratic process is the biggest crime you can commit in society. It's destroying the foundations of all the laws on which it is built.

Can’t believe it’s an Asian, Labour politician that the OP was referring to. Was convinced it would be a white Tory! The BBC have seemingly pissed on the chips of his “scoop” too.

:-)

How do we tighten up elctoral fraud rules?

We start punishing them.

If the punishment for an overspend was 1 month in jail for every pound spent, applying to every board member and management team then it would stop tomorrow.

I still maintain that election fraud should carry life sentences.
