Not doubting you mate , £200 a month is crazy to me, my usage on pay as you go meters is only about £60 a month.

it's coming people just aren't fully aware of it or even expecting it. Over the next 6 months the shit really is going to hit the fan for a lot of people when their current contracts end. Especially the people who's contracts end around Feburary time as they might be hit with an instant x3 number for their bills. You might be a lucky one on pay as you go meters I think they might be doubly protected as well as vulnerable people.

expect 4x rise unless Russia and the EU start communitcating with each other.

I'm not normally a doom merchant but this is going to be a big one.

Thanks mate, yeah agreed, it’s coming isn’t it, I’m very good with my usage and keep an eye on things so I’ll be fine, it’s other people I worry about tbh, let’s hope something is sorted out .

I'll give you my stats for an example, I use 4000Kwh of electricity and 8000kwh of gas. pretty average, I used to pay £70 a month but the supplier went bust and now I'm on £180 a month with no deals around to switch around to. I was pretty careful with my usage before but now I'm ultra aware of when things are on and being very strict with myself it would be very easy to double your usage by accident leaving a few things plugged in every day. I even turn the idle cooker clock off now it's that bad. I'll be fine as I can afford the bill but this kind of raise is going to cripple a lot of households. I really hope it's just a winter thing and the price per therm drops at some point but it's very persistent at the moment. We shouldn't have to live with a worry of turning an extra light on or even worse deciding against heating a home.

Ask her to switch to smart meters. I did that and without changing my habits in any way at all, my usage dropped by nearly half. Hats for both fuels by the way. Electric is about 25 a month, gas is about 45 a month.
