Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

City's board will be very anxious to resolve Maresca's future asap although I suspect they knew this was all in the pipeline. Maresca is not going to be able to meet the full contingent of players until after the World Cup. Doing transfer business before the WC does carry some risk, e.g., selling Savinho. I agree about that although I would sell Savinho to Spurs if the monies are right. I think he could become a very good player but he might need a move.
once wc over they'll go on 3/4 weeks holiday they wont give two f$$$ s about city

Players’ profiles, strengths, weaknesses are entirely known before they pull on the shirt. Every transfer comes with a degree of risk but it is clear which ones come with less risk than others. If nobody knows whether players are the right player for the club then just sack all scouts if it’s such a roll of the dice. Just pull names out of a hat because nobody knows if they are right for us anyway.
As an example I give you florian wirtz who had the right profile stats etc gor liverpool and they paid the money wanted. And he's been out shone by a player in the same position who cost peanuts and was probably thought of as a squad player!!

May not have been a direct negotiation but they don't make the bid without knowing Forest are going to play ball and be reasonable, and that's probably what the discussion was, Amongst many other things.
That was a Txiki hallmark. When a bid went in it was with the understanding the other side would play ball. Will see with Viana.

Hopefully part of an agreed dance between khaldoon and their chairman. First bid rejected so he gets more so it looks like he drove a better bargain for the club and the fans.

The dance has started. This will be done by the end of the week I’d have thought

Owners met at that dinner last week, and presumably cleared the way for this to start happening.
