Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

Yaya Toure could play defensive midfield and dictate play. He could play centre half in Champions League finals and put Christiano Ronaldo in his back pocket. He had the touch of David Silva, the vision of KDB. He scored free kicks from 35 yards. He never missed a penalty. He could literally pick up the ball and run past every single player on the pitch before putting it into the bottom corner. He scored heavy goals.
Anderson has the potential to be a good player. He will never ever get to Yaya's level. For me, Yaya is the best midfield player to ever play in the Premier League. I can't think of another single midfielder who could do what he could.

It's interesting how you rate Yaya yet the greatest manager in prem history didn't think that much of him. Yaya even had the nerve to call Pep a snake you are looking at Yaya through blue tinted glasses. Maybe be Anderson might not reach his heights but I would sooner have 1 Anderson instead of 100 Yaya who spat his dummy out over a birthday cake .

Anderson is a really good player and I would love him at City. But, he's absolutely nothing like Yaya in any way.
If Anderson ends up as good as Barry, then he will have a fantastic career. Yaya was a truly elite footballer and there has never been a more complete or gifted midfielder in the Premier league era.
100% agree with your comments on Yaya

Yaya was overweight and 33 when Pep joined. It actually gave Pep a convenient player to use to highlight his authority. The Yaya of 2013/14 would have played every game and Pep would have loved him.

He was a tit though.

Kev was more complete.

Yaya was brilliant at running fwd...he come over all Rico if the play went up the other end...possibly worse than Rico, sometimes he wouldnt even bother getting up but sit there doing the Micah Richards plane landing instructions.

Other than that he was nearly complete.

So over 100 mil for a Barry clone lol
People who don't think Barry was world class simply don't know football. One of the most criminally under rated footballers to play for us and for England. For the role he did, he did it perfectly and a fuckin unbelievable pro as well. You know you're good when David Silva says you're one of the best players he's ever played with

Starts every week for Pep, superb player. To this day the only players name ive had printed on my shirt. Rolls Royce of a midfielder and that little scrote Milner never should have took his record off him.

this is a popular profile in modern football. We don’t have to be fans. But it’s what’s needed.

He is our Declan Rice, it’s the only fair comparison to him. Might not have the same physicality, but he has the engine, the aggression, and ability to whip the odd cross or shoot from range. May even be slightly better on the ball. But that’s it. He will be expensive, as usual we won’t be able to justify his value, but who cares? Can we really afford to make the mistake again not having a box to box, ball winning and box crashing all rounder after missing out on Rice, Jude to name a couple? No we can’t.

It was only justified for Pep because he’s always valued brains over engines for his technical midfield, but if you can have both, you’ll win. He had realised it a couple seasons ago but the profiles are hard to find or sign. We will only be aiding Maresca by giving him a mix and variety of tools to make his job as easy as possible in his first season, because it’s an incredibly tough ask to fill the shoes of the greatest ever gaffer.

I hope we wrap it up before the World Cup. If not, there are plenty keen clubs and I doubt they’ll wait around.
