Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

Hmm, felt like we needed to get this sorted before the WC. That ships sailed and as we still havent even announced Maresca my confidence in this deal actually happening has largely evaporated.
Has Anderson joined another club? I must have missed it, along with all these other blockbuster deals our rivals have managed to get over the line.

Most of our targets are about to going to World Cups. If we are going for non World Cup players yeah you go and get them done and dusted now. Also I think we want the issue with the manager resolved. As in get him in the building so he's there when they sign. No doubt some players be thinking twice with the manager not confirmed yet. Will some be put off City without Pep too that's the issue we never had with Pep as most players wanted to play in his team.

I am impatient as a fan but the World Cup is a 2 way gamble. Doing a deal before the Cup puts us on injury risk. Of course if he becomes the star of the tournament then the price may rise

With England flying out today I assume we will have to wait until July now to get this one done.

Shame as was hoping we could get it sorted before the World Cup but I guess was never that likely given forest owner

Hopefully we have some agreement on his fee at least. I think, positively, even if he has an incredible world cup he's going to push for a move and we're not up against the whole of Europe for him so should still be in a strong position. If rumours are to believed he wants to join us and we've been working behind the scenes on this a while.

Critical signing for us in my opinion, he'll make us a much more dominant side.

The thing is, if we think he's good enough long term, it would take a really serious injury to put us off buying him. Yeah you might get a few quid off but it would be peanuts over the life of his time here (again, if we think he's good enough). If he has an insane world cup that's the sort of thing that starts bidding wars with teams previously not in the picture, and really silly numbers being thrown around especially for wages.

We already own a bunch of players that could get injured this world cup. Getting this done before it starts is highly preferable, IMO.

Pep chose KP over Rice. By the time we realised it was a mistake Arsenal had Rice all lined up.

Paqueta didn’t snub us we changed our mind after the betting scandal.

JB went to Real Madrid. Real Madrid will always have the most pulling power….although we did very well to get Haaland over them.

Perhaps you should have used Wirtz as an example but then I doubt 115 had much to do with it.

We will never know but we couldn’t have done much better trophy wise with the players we signed with or without 115 so I don’t get you point, it seems very random and flies in the face of the sponsorship deals we have signed over the years.
As much as I hate Real Madrid, I think you're absolutely spot on about their pulling power. I'm struggling to think of a player we've genuinely missed out since Pogba & Ssnchez. You could probably say Wirtz but supposedly he was worried about how long Pep would be around. Since Wirtz signed for the dippers, it's ironic Slot only stayed a couple of days more than Pep

I think the overall financial package of Wirtz was the stopper for us.
It looks like we were right not to get involved with silly money for him.
He's been really poor

If we sign him before the World Cup and he gets injured or seriously injured during the World Cup, we’re fucked. Are you City going to take that risk, or are they going wait and sign him after the World Cup, and he’s not injured, and have to pay a higher price?
