Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

Would be another Rice situation. Don’t pay the money for a good player and we end up spending 140m+ on inferior players. Buy cheap, buy twice and we’ve bought more than twice. Had we bought Rice we wouldn’t have ended up spunking 140m on Nico G, Philips and Reijnders ( + Nunes really)

If the mad Greek as some are calling him knows that Anderson is likely to go he will need to replace him. By all accounts they want Hackney from Middlesbrough. However, Everton are after Hackney also and if the mad Greek delays the Anderson deal too long they will likely miss out. Think about it.

Offer a fair price and walk if they'd prefer to hold out and sell later to united or whoever for a fortune. Fair enough but a pity for us.

In the meantime hopefully we have other targets.

Anderson is a good player. But one player is very rarely genuinely so unique that you have to pay crazy prices.

As much as I liked Grealish he surely should have taught us a lesson.

And Rice. He would have been great at the time but we did the right thing imo by walking.

Our lack of a league title isn't for the lack of signing Rice. We have plenty to work on besides the CM (even though that too is very important).

I hope we hold our nerve and think longterm.

Nico G and Nunes are fine players imo and should be paying off now. (I'm a bit mystified as to how Nico hasn't played more)

Reijnders may come good but wel have to see.

I'm glad we walked from the stupid money for Rice...in hindsight. At the time though I'd have loved the signing.

Fingers crossed that Vianna has a rabbit up his jocks.

100% and we can’t afford to waste another £140mill we’ll fall further behind. Just pay them and get this done

Just pay them the £105m or so they actually want but include add ons for leagues and cups that are worth it of we won them
We say £90m they say £105m and everyone is happy

Completely disagree with your take on Rice. Without him in that midfield, Arsenal aren't winning the league. And he'd have walked into our midfield once Rodders picked up his injury.

I honestly think we'd be sitting on six-in-a-row if we'd have signed him.

Marikas “it’s 120m”
120M whats??

You may notice I used £, not €.
£100M is about €116M.

And, notice the potential add-ons and deal structure go put them in a great cash position to cover the cost of replacements and detract SIGNIFICANTLY from their FFP/PSR troubles.

Lastly, I’m sure the **** never changed his mind by a penny in negotiations!
