Emigrating Guilt

Well said. Yes we have our problems and things are not great at the moment but I wouldn’t ever consider living anywhere else. The positives certainly outweigh the negatives.
At least in the UK things happen, nothing ever happens here in Oz. We're all bored :)

I emigrated to Canada after the Beanie season and the amount of shit I got from family I only saw once a year was unprecedented, and unforseen.
There is a brief period where you do feel a bit lost but it won't be so bad, especially as others have said, it is only Europe and a few hours away.
Go for it and live your life mate, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

The wife and I have decided to pay off the last of our debts this year and get the wheels in motion to move to Barcelona.

We've started learning Spanish,
having lived in barcelona myself (btw, the locals refer to it as barna)
i can assure you learning spanish is a waste of your time.

they are passionate about independence from spain.
they were shat on by the spanish (and to a certain extent still are being).

most, but definitely not all, of them understand spanish,
but they don't speak it to each other.
their native tongue is catalan.

i can promise you from experience that they would rather you speak in english than in bad spanish.
you won't win any friends by trying out your spanish on them.
if you learn some catalan, though, they will appreciate it and you will make friends.

My son and his wife moved to Vancouver. My philosophy is that I brought my kids up to be independent and they are happy and I can go over to visit which I love. The other three are over here, one in Wales the other two in Greater Manchester and again they are independent.
As long as they are happy I’m happy. It’s their life not mine.
