Saw him at Leeds Fest on Sunday, and honestly no feeling will ever compare to it! He is one of the greatest musical artists of all time whether or not you think hip hop music is 'shitty'.

Some kids never lived.

Just listened to that new track ... very good. Maybe a little too many nods to the Beastie Boys in there but if this is a sign of the direction of the Rubin/Mathers collaboration then I for one like it a lot.

You see, there's my problem. When he first burst onto the music scene he was fresh, new, exciting...and now he's not. It's generic rap now, rap a bit, mix something in, rap a bit...it's been done a thousand times before and sounds...boring. I won't look back on that single in 10 years time and go...WOW...like I do with something like "Stan" which is what good rap should be. Angry in places, lyrically superb and musically brilliant.

Its not his fault that rap has moved in to some generic dance music scene. Its up to him if he wants to stay relevant or not but this all boils down to rap and hip hop going completely the wrong way about 2005 when puff the magic dragon diddy daddy started a movement of rap/dance

Although Berzerk sounds like something the beastie boys would of done back in the 90's

I didn't know he was still going, although if that single is any yardstick he probably isn't, as it is derivative and forgettable.
I thought rappers all died when they got older - maybe white ones have a pension plan, or an ISA or open up a haberdashers.
Maybe I'm not the target audience, as I still think Public Enemy rock.

It is his fault though. As an artist you move on or stand still. Guess what he has done? Nothing. The same old stuff. Over and over. I love Rubin but he needed a producer that wouldn't drag him back.

I do agree, like he set the bar so high with MMLP that it impossible to surpass it. People will always compare his new music to MMLP and SSLP.

It's a cliche but it's kind of true ... artists have their whole lives to write their first album, and then a few years in between to write each follow up.

I think he has moved forward but it doesn't suit him. Standing still would of seen him produce better music that is my argument. If he was doing the same old stuff over and over he would still be on top of his game.

White men shouldnt rap..

Its just not right..leave it to those who do it best..

Not sure about that, the majority of black rappers cite eminem as one of the greatest
Thats probably cos they have made shedloads of money from him to the 'white' audiences.
Rap has been going strong now since about 1978/9 ish thats 35 years, how many good white rappers can you name in all that time..??
Vanilla ice,beastie boys,eminem..??

nah!!!

By the same argument how many good black rock acts have their been in recent times? Hendrix, bad brains? Who else? But how many of the millions of white rock acts even come close to either of those 2? Same thing with eminem I feel.

Edit: By the way you left snow off your list of white rappers.

you're saying Eminem is to rap what Hendrix was to rock??

That is just so wrong on many levels...

No he didn't say that your argument was how many white rappers have there been therefore meaning Eminem cant be good. By using the logic of your argument Hendrix would be shit as there have not been many black rock artists.

Hip Hop has kinda run out of ideas lately cant really get my head around the out of sync. beats , it just dont really work . I like the new single its nod to the Beastie boys and RUN DMC . It doesn`t have to be fresh or even unique it was always better when it was raw and simple , it was always about the beats for me first . Not what new toy the producer has in his studio that he wants to play with and certainly with Marshall he has great prose and lyrical flow ,there really doesnt need to be a lot added to it really . I`d certainly like to see more spoken word from him .

The genre needed to get back to its roots years ago . As US hip hop went crap when it was all `bout the dollar , keep it real at least then you can respect an artist if not him /her musically

And why do you think there havent been many black rock artists?? probably for the same reason that there havent been many white rappers..

So many fantastic rap artists have had a bad deal from the commercial radio stations cos they are just not mainstream enough.
Eminem is mainstream because he's marketable to mainly white audiences thus getting so much more airplay..

This is what I dont like and mainly because so much good stuff gets missed.
why do you think there are so many pirate radio rap stations ??

Its everyones loss tbh...

Isn't that just stereotyping though. Thats a bit like saying gay people only like Wham and the Spice Girls

You dont think music is stereotypical ?? of course it is,its about making money and aimed at certain audiences..

Do you think bieber aims his music at middle class 30 year olds??

Genre and audiences have everything to do with it..

I wonder how many gay people go to public enemy concerts?? ;)

Single is terrible. As was Recovery. Needs to get back to taking the piss out of himself.

By the way, the fucking Beastie Boys rocked dick.
