The delivery guy at my place of work said to
me this morning that part of the plans are to
put an enclosed roof on the stadium to improve
the atmosphere and help keep the noise in created
by the fans. But from what i have been reading on here that will not be possible because people have said on
here that we can not take the roof off because of it causing
support and structural problems to the stadium.
The guy who told me said he got told the information off someone at
rochdale football club who knows gary owen quite well.

The roof is actually a completely different structure to the basin of the stadium so the whole lot can come off without a problem. The real difficulty comes when trying to replace sections of it. Not impossible, just a very big job to do.

Can't see this being true though, especially if the rumours of a new North Stand are true. Plus the stadium is different heights all the way around. How could a roof be put on a structure that isn't level all the way round?

we should have a really curved end like a roman amphitheatre, but with a 'quater-sphere' roof running onto the other rooves.
it may sound really odd but there is method in my madness, a single man could be heard throughout the whole 'amphitheatre' because of its unique structure and hasnt really been used to its full potential in the modern world. the vibrations from the epic noise will go through the ground and more importantly through the 'quatre-sphere' roof which will guide the vibrations through the roof which will make the whole stadium echo and vibrate

i am useless on photoshop so can someone try this if they have enough time?

yeah one that basically keeps the rain off like the one at the
millennium stadium.

-- Mon Mar 15, 2010 9:05 pm --

DUBAI BLUE yeah i know what you are saying mate but some of the
architecture in the world today is amazing and they seem to
find a solution around most things now and i am sure they
could probably find a way of putting a roof on the stadium.
a mean look at what they did with the taipei tower they built in
taiwan to stop it from moving in high winds.A mean that was
really clever architecture

Crikey!!

It's much smaller than COMS though, and I imagine that roof can't be opened, which is essential for a football stadium.

Been to the flames a few times.... its a good stadium for Ice Hockey - and the local stampede. But if the numbers being banded around for the regeneration are in line with the rumours then we really should be looking to turn the stadium into the showpiece of Sports city and create something a bit special.
