Encountering City players / staff in everyday life

When i was in the junior blues, steve mckenzie took a few of us for a kick about a couple times.also he took us to McDonald's in town.

Andy Dibble going for a job at Forest. All suited and booted, showed me his ticket and slept through his station. He was panicking like fuck for a train back from Grantham.

Coming home from Wilbraham School back in the mid/late 60s, used to always call in to the butchers on Platt Lane (Jewsons IIRC) and get a couple of bones for our dog. Quite often Buzzer would be in there nattering away. He was always smiling and happy to shake a cheeky 7 year olds hand.

seen quite a few city/united players around Manchester, incredibly two of my mates managed to pick out Jack Colback at the Trafford centre when he was still at Sunderland and got a picture with him, not sure many fans could pick him out today.
Went to school with a lad who plays for Rochdale now and a relation of Frank Swifts, not sure if he was his nephew or grand son.

In no particular order:

Nicky Weaver crawling into a black cab on his hands and knees in Didsbury village old squires.
Ronaldo getting into his flash car in Didsbury village when at united with his greasy hair.

Early 90's Discotheque Royale favorite haunt Coton, Giggs, Sharpe Beckham a few times were always in there. On one occasion Sharpe was there with his bell end mates. There was a toilet attendant who worked there who was a city fan looked like Ronnie Corbett. I used to speak to him and he would say who was in. I was having a piss and and said I've just seen that cocky dickhead Sharpe. We ended up both slagging him off with him saying he is arrogant twat. Just then Sharpe walks out of the cubicle toilet !

Travelled to Ipswich with the Mrs and we were staying over. As we pulled up a finlands coach outside with Manchester City on. I thought it was supporters club coach as my Mrs is checking in she asks me for my credit card as I am staring at Kinkladze sat about 3 yards away. She gives me a dig and Im speechless as a few other city players go past. That evening we have a meal in the hotel and then go into the bar. It's about 10pm and most of the players have disaapeared. I notice Frank Clarke and his backroom staff sat behind a pillar. Were sat around 4 feet away behind the other pillar listening in to all the gossip. Frank Clarke was slagging off half the players unbelievable.

Had a good chat last year with Shay Given in the Met in West Didsbury really nice down to earth guy.

Gary Neville on a plane to Germany commentating on City game for Sky with a plane full of blues. He was in what could only be described as the shittiest 1st class on a plane which literally just had a curtain splitting up 1st and standard. City fans took the piss all the way there. He was alright and took it in good spirits.

Kompany on another flight on his own when he was injured seemed very distant and not very sociable.

Made a tit of myself getting my years all mixed up when I was sat chatting to Michael Johnson in the bar he part owns in West Didsbury he didn't know if the 2 lads we walked in with were reds or blues so he was a bit apprehensive. When we told him we were blues he opened up. Classic from myself what was it like playing with Paul Lake he was a brilliant footballer. He replies cheeky bastard how old do you think I am !

Met Jack Dyson in a pub my mum worked at lunchtimes, (mare and foal, failsworth) 1985 ish. Had city tie on, he was selling drinking glasses I think. Asked about his tie, and said he'd done a bit for city. Spent ten top minutes telling me about his career, he also played for Lancashire cricket club. I still have his autograph and photo framed, when he bagged his goal in 56 cup final

Did you know Margaret Wood, mate?
