End of an era

Like it. I agree with Silva. Him yaya Dzeko aguero kolorov jovetic all to be sold to raise enough money to overhaul the squad
But whatever you sold Silva for the replacement wouldn't be better and probably cost more. It's a ridiculous notion, same applies for Aguero.

Good read as always Toma!

but Silva........... really?

Surely Merlin has 2-3 great seasons still left in him for US and no doubt under a new sorcerer at the helm... Then its back to Grand Canaria for him no doubt :-)

Why does everyone know where Silva was born but nobody knows which part of Belguim Vinny is from or where in France Nasri was born?

Silva is 29. We could make money on him and buy someone up and coming with more mobility. Aguero id loathe to lose but we could again get huge money on him and invest in a striker would will play a whole season. He's injuries mid season cost us however wonderful he's been

We can bring in enough money by selling Dzeko, Kolorov, Yaya and Nasri without having to get rid of our two best players. You're looking at around £50 million plus for those 4, add in the players who we're getting off the wage bill like Sinclair, Nastasic, Lampard, Sagna etc and then the £80-100 million we look like we'll be spending (on top of the money recouped) and there's no reason whatsoever why we can't bring in the very best to compliment the couple of world class players already here.

Give your head a wobble, twice-for both of those suggestions.

Our situation is not unlike the shite at the end of last year. They changed manager and bought heavily in order to claw back lost ground. It worked insofar as they will now finish top 3 or 4, but not to the extent that they have mounted a title challenge.

Well, Pellegrini's recent record is not dissimilar to that of Moyes and we also find ourselves in need of a partial rebuild. Unless a top class managerial appointment is in the offing (and I'm not sure where it will come from), my fear is that Chelsea will forge further ahead next season and we will just be one of the chasing pack.

Since we need to discard one or two members of "the project" you might say an era has ended. More optimistically I'm hoping it might only have been disrupted.

David wasn't the worst player yesterday and hasn't he scored more goals for us this season than for any of his other clubs?

He may not be as demonstrative, as heart on the sleeve as Zaba, but I believe he's just as fond of us. I'll be in tears the day he leaves.

Apologies and no disrespect. No time to read this thrad now.

Was thinking...

3 more years to go in the 2nd 5 year plan. One more cycle of manager and buying in player and selling.

THEN, the youth policy should start kicking in.

If Silva leaves there will be much bigger clubs than Valencia coming in for him. Out of the entirety of the squad there are probably only Aguero and Silva that you would 100% say need to stay. Kompany is another but at the moment the fans are deserting him.

I do agree it has the feeling of an end of an era and that we do need to lose quite a number of our players but at the same time are we really to believe that 9/10 of our best players have turned to shite in one season? I prefer a much easier conclusion; the manager has made an absolute pigs ear of the season and the new manager needs to start afresh

My latest offering for Betfair - on why it's the end of an era for City. Took no pleasure in writing this but it needed saying.

<a class="postlink" href="https://betting.betfair.com/football/premier-league/manchester-city-the-end-of-an-era-130415-718.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://betting.betfair.com/football/pr ... 5-718.html</a>

*Sees repeated mention of Silva*

*Checks link*

*Scans to see the line "In the departures lounge expect the exquisite David Silva to head for Spain, with a return to Valencia the likeliest outcome"*

*Laughs*

*Stops reading*

*Logs off*

+1.

Should point out that I personally don't want him to go - I'd build another team around him - but I believe he's on his way.

On what evidence?

Didn't Silva say he wants to win the Champions League with us just a matter of weeks ago?

I don't think he's infallible but I don't think he'll go this summer. If City do get De Bruyne, there is a chance he will be seen as Silva's successor. He isn't as elegant as Silva but there is more of a directness to his game which results in goals, assists and also very good crosses + corners. If KDB could produce what he has at Wolfsburg (or even within 20% of that astonishing productivity) it could make City consider selling a then-30 year old Silva next summer. But now with so many others on the chopping block? I just can't see it.

I heard something a while back then I heard something very similar recently. Trust both.
Then the club aren't anywhere near as savvy as we're led to believe.
