Even the expert alongside the commentator was hopeless. At one point after the goal she said "I'm sure the ref did not blow her whistle to allow the free kick". It had to be pointed out to her that the ref does not have to. Now call me pedantic but surely an ex international with over 80 caps to her name should actually know the laws of the game she is an "expert" on. Similar to Lawro stating that Glenn Johnson was the best defender on the field because of all the last ditch tackles he had to make because he was out of position.
All pundits are sh*te IMO and are not worth the money they are paid.
In respect of Womens Football the game is 50 year behind the mens due to being banned in 1921 and that ban not being lifted until 1971. If male footbal in this country was stopped for that length of time, would the standard slip. I think so.
As a male some of the comments are sexist and it seems accepted, but if you were blatently racist i.e. 'white people can't jump' people would go mental.
What do people expect of womens football at the moment for a game which at the top level is semi-pro? For some reason they expect the female counterparts to be just as good as messi because they are considered 'top level'. Wake up people, take the game for what it is at the moment, with backing, funding and increase grassroots participation it will get there but it will take time. (by the way the germans are good cos they back it double world champ and 7 euro, and not even started on how well the men have done...) attitude to developemtn of men and womens football in this country stink, we are the joke of europe as a nation.
To illustrate my point was football good to watch in the 1940's? I doubt it because it wasnt what it is now. The 100m sprint time for men & women gets faster and faster why? because of professionalism, investment into athletes.
If anyone here had a daughter and she was good and i mean very good at football im sure you would be the first to complain that she will never be able realise her talent due to people taking the view that 'it's not elite premier league level men's' (who by the way train 5 days a week, and are given everything from age 6 to suceed).
It's where it is due to being 50 years behind and under funded and us men feeling threatened if we saw some better than us, and they do exist by the way.
Why shouldnt womens international games be shown? it'll increase awareness, then interest then participation.
Pools of:
1 million women choose from - how good do you have to be to reach the top?
3 million men to choose from - how good do you have to be to reach the top?
Higher amount of base numbers + more competition = better top level players
To be fair we dont really value sport and what it can bring to peoples lives in this country, we just like to think we do.
Why can't people say 'good luck to them, hope they do well'. If it's not for you then don't watch it. No one is asking you to, but if you watch it then fair enough.
No doubt ill get a sarcastic remark somewhere.
