If we can get away playing two in midfield then lets play both Rooney and Sturridge but we need to try it out against Chile and Germany in November, if it works well then great, if not then I think we should be looking at going 4-3-3.

I personally would go with a 4-3-3 so as of now my main team would be:

Walcott-----Rooney----Townsend
--------Barkley------Wilshire--------
----------------Gerrard-----------------
Baines--Cahill--Jagielka--Walker
------------------Hart--------------------

I would do a variation of that with a 4-1-4-1 like when we played Brazil at Wembley, we played well playing that formation that day.

I quite like this but with this variation

Walcott-----Sturridge----Townsend
--------Rooney------Wilshire--------
----------------Gerrard-----------------
Baines--Cahill--Jagielka--Walker
------------------Hart--------------------

two issues though

first, if you are playing Walcott and Townsend together you probably need two holding midfielders or one holder and one box to box, Rodwell for Wilshere might work.

second, if England were planning to play like this lampard would need to be on the plane, because they will need an old head in the last 15 minutes of tight games, and if Gerrard is injured Lampard is the obvious replacement

--------------------Hart-------------------
Richards-----Dawson-----Jagielka-----Baines
-------------Gerrard©----Wilshire-----------
Milner-----------------------------Townsend
----------------Rooney---------------------
--------------------Sturridge---------------

--------------------Ruddy-----------------
Walker-------Cahill------Lescott-------Gibbs
--------------Carrick-----Lampard----------
Walcott-----------------------------Lallana
-----------------Barkley--------------------
---------------------Lambert---------------

Forster, Smalling, Jones, Rodwell, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Morrison, Defoe

29 players there^

I have never understood why they take 3 Goalkeepers. Would have to be pretty unfortunate to have 2 injured/suspended in that short space of time. Opens up another outfield option to take. Am i missing something here?

I would liek to see Roy take a squad of inform hungry players so alot still to be decided for me.

Hart, Forster, Butland

Richards, Johnson, Smalling, Jones, Jagielka, Cahill, Dawson, Cole, Baines

Gerrard, Lampard, Milner, Wilshere, The Ox, Townsend, Carrick, Walcott, Barkley (although this place is open for others like Morrison, Redmond etc dependent on form and game time)

Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeckham,

Hart, Ruddy, Forster

Walker, Smalling, Baines, Cole, Cahill, Jagielka, Jones, Dawson

Townsend, Walcott, Milner, Chamberlain, Gerrard, Wilshire, Carrick, Morrison Lampard

Rooney, Sturridge, Lambert

Danny Welbeck should be nowhere near any England team.
