England Strikers for the World Cup...

I remember the days when England had a tough choice and left very good forwards at home. Now we struggle to get 4 that can score and rely on a fat balding scouse who rarely bothers to turn up to these tournaments anyway

I think Defoe could be a contender for the World Cup.

Off to Toronto now but i think they're in their off season.

Criminally left on the bench at Spurs.

Hardly, somehow he managed to be even more useless than Soldado for them. It tells you everything you need to know that other than joining QPR, the only option he had was a team in the MLS.

I hardly seen him play for them this season, last thing i remember of Defoe was him scoring against us after coming on as a sub.

Well in short he has been crap. No goals in 12 in the league, decent return in the league cup (2 in 3) and Europa (7 in 5) but against poor(er) opposition. There was the typical media call for his inclusion in the starting XI at the start of the season ahead of Soldado, ignoring the key point above. Adebayor was out of the team and returned under Sherwood to immediate goals and good form. JD and RD are quite similar, and considering age and value there was only going to be one winner.

JD might still have a role to play off the bench in a the WC but I would rather take inform players. If fit I would take Rooney, Sturridge, Rodriguez and Lambert, I am not convinced by Welbeck, playing upfront and JR offers more of a threat. I would have taken Walcott as a wide and forward option so it is either make a space for a midfielder like Barkley who isn't guaranteed a place or pick a natural RW, Lennon would be the obvious choice as he has just come into some form.

AMs

Milner, Lallana, Townsend, Barkley/Lennon

Forgive my ignorance but does anyone know how many English strikers okay in the. Premiership? Just want to know how many there are to choose from?

Wellbeck, Defoe and Carlton cole all bagged yesterday.

Plus Danny Ings who has got 20 goals in the league and cup this season...

31 English strikers (although some such as the Murphy twins would more likely be classed as wide forwards or even wingers, hard to put them in a particular category as they are not regulars).

I have compiled this chart to answer the question, I deliberately didn't include those currently on loan, although players such as Wilbraham and Lita (who has been on short loans and hasn't made a Pl appearance in 18 months) are included but are unlikely to feature. Reservists who have yet to feature aren't included, but Wilbraham has made some so does, players included are from Wiki first team squads and includes those who haven't featured.

Darren Bent

Thanks for this. So only 14 regular players to choose from and to be fair I wouldn't put any of them in my fantasy football team! It's not an easy job being England manager when the choices are so limited
