England Under 20's in the World Cup

Most of the top English U-20s weren't released by their clubs - Wilshire and Gibbs at Arsenal for example.

Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Jack Rodwell (Everton), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Junior Stanislas (West Ham), James Tomkins (West Ham) are other Premier League regulars for their clubs who weren't released.

It's not just top players though.

Don't think any of Alex Mcarthy (Reading), Chris Smalling (Fulham), Miles Addison (Derby), Ciaran Clark (Aston Villa), Joe Mattock (West Brom), Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Sam Hutchinson (Chelsea), Jack Cork (Chelsea), Tom Cleverley (Man Utd), Danny Rose (Spurs), Danny Welbeck (Man Utd), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Freddie Sears (West Ham), Andy Carroll (Newcastle) or Nathan Delfouneso (Aston Villa) have travelled.

So it's not really shocking this group are so poor, looking at past squads some don't even make it in professional football. Surprised Jamie Carragher played for this lot.

I guess the timing of the tournament doesnt help.Surely would of been better to hold it end of July?

Christ that is shocking really.

England never really take these tournaments (U-20 and U-17 world championships) seriously.

Maybe its time we did, it will be 46 years of hurt by the next WC
