England v Greece | 10th Oct '24 | Nations League

was all going to be the land of milk and honey when Southgate ‘f*cked’ off , yet here we are - same old slagging of the tactics, formations, individual players to blame.
Southgate was never the problem.
It’s international football, it will always be like this.
Southgate was a huge problem. We swapped for the other end of the spectrum. All defence to no defence, there was no balance. At least he tried something different. The test will be if he learned. We had too many similar players. Looked promising on paper but turned out extremely porous.

At least I didnt have to watch 90 minutes of pickford hoofing it to the opposition center backs.

His selection had a look of trying to please the media. Pickford, Trent, Plodder, Saka, Bellend, Gordon and Palmer were all definitely going to be included. Johnny Boulders walked into the team as the only decent centre back. Harry Hotspur comes into the team next match and lets see who's omitted. Hopefully Phil and Rico.
Mind you, Saka has to be released from the intensive care unit first.
I applaud him for giving something different a go tactically. Agree though that he tried to shoehorn the flavours of the months into the same 11. He’s an interim though so it’s a strange one for him. He or his successor are going to struggle with the fact that there is a glut of no.10s and wingers but no keeper, fullbacks and a lack of a long term quality no.9

The standard is pretty poor. Not much value in the result of a majority of games. The first on the chopping block of too many games. The nations league was supposed to make up for meaningless friendlies but non participating teams play friendlies on the same fixture nights. National associations trying to claw money back from the clubs.

One thing I think people forget with this nations league crap, is that it was only invented to replace pointless friendlies before tournament qualifiers, do I like it, no not a lot, and the games still to a degree feel like "pointless friendlies" where the coaches like to experiment.

Putting all those players together tonight was pointless "trying something different" it actually achieved nothing but a disjointed mess, with many players looking poor, not knowing their jobs etc etc.

One example is Rico, he looked OK there in one game, but every time he's played there for City, he's looked a little lost, and I thought he was still one of the better players tonight.

So many of the players were really poor tonight. I'll start with our own Phil, yes it's true there are a couple who just won't pass to him, but he's really not on form for us yet, he's not moving like he was, and he just doesn't fit that role in that team, with those players.

Saka was everything I always think he is for England. Rice hasn't ever done it for me (club or country). Bellingham is mostly hype about the good things he can do, but everyone ignores the shit things he does, of which there are many, but above all constantly making poor decisions (and constantly thinking waving your arms at the fans is football). Pickford is a liability, always has been, makes the odd save yes, but as many rickets. Alexander Arnold - frilly knickers not a good footballer.

Whether under Southgate or Carsley, we keep seeing the same performances, however they're set up, and with the talent available it's simply not up to much as a "team" for most of the time.

Best two players were Rico and Cole Palmer.

Bellingham sauntered around the pitch for most of the game or was on the floor claiming a foul.

Balance wasn’t right tonight. Greece were quick though at moving the ball and deserved to win.

This is really strange

I think he's phrased that poorly and nor really articulated what he wanted to say.

He clearly means he's been given the job on a temporary basis and isn't looking beyond that and hopes his under 21 job is safe if he's not kept on as the senior England manager.

Whether it’s waistcoat or Carsley they are both FA yes men who haven’t got the balls to drop certain players whose attitude stinks or are not team players. The English team needs a manager with some bollocks who will take no messing and these egos who are undroppable need to put up or sit on the bench
