Completely missed this, didn't realise it was an early one. Were they completely wank again? Sounds like it.

Yep.

2 OG's got them out the shit.

PMSL.

I will laugh so hard when they get knocked out. I just hope Hart and AJ have good games though.

quality of football was awful. Championship standard.

Only Hart did anything to enhance his reputation. Not convinced Capello knows what he's doing. Why didn't Johnson get a look in on the left?

It was another game which highlighted the big problem England have; we're technically not up to it in comparison with the big teams. The number of times the ball was given away first half was shocking, Japan looked a more cohesive unit, and if they had a bit more upfront could have beaten us without too much problems. I know it was only a friendly, but that technical know how is not something you can gain from the training pitch. Just watch the quarter-finals against Brazil in 2002, and Portugal in 2004, games we were leading, but the opposition hit back. England could not keep the ball, and see out the game. We just kept lumping it clear, and the ball was just coming back all the time. I'm not saying we can't win the World Cup, but I really don't fancy our chances against someone like Brazil, Spain, Germany, etc.

Please. Oh and SWP taken instead of lolcott.

How shit at defending is Glen Johnson? We have no chance of winning anything with him in the team.

A typical horseshit England performance, the likes of Spain and Brazil will be quaking in their boots.

Gutted for Johnson as well, today's game was a perfect opportunity for him to show what he's capable of, yet wasn't even handed another 5 minute(!) substitute appearance. All while Lennon looked strikingly uncomfortable on the left and his younger clone put in a typically inept, ineffective and one dimensional performance on the right.

Johnson has more to his game than both of those completely one dimensional 'head down and run merchants'. He has the intelligence to look for a pass, find the space, and then whip in a slippery ball into that space with either foot. He can play left or right effectively, and is a big threat cutting on to his left foot from out wide, and he has the trickery to boot.

He's the only young talent in the squad, he's an unknown and opposition sides would know very little about him, he'd be a great option to have in the latter stages of a tight game, he'd be a classic joker card...

-- Sun May 30, 2010 4:31 pm --

Yet it's now even more clear than it already was a few days ago that he isn't going to the World Cup, and he'll be part of the cull having been given no real opportunity to show what he's capable of.

I'm gutted for the lad, wasn't given the opportunity, and that's all you can ask for.
