Reaching a semi-final of a World Cup is a bigger achievement than not reaching a semi-final of a World Cup.

Amounts to the same thing. Failure!, and not even glorious failure at that. The two decent teams who we played showed us are arses. How many remember who played in city's semi final defeat to Madrid a few years ago. How many view that as an achievement ? I'm surprised if there's any on this forum Why? Because nobody heralds failure. Unlees like Jose once said you're a specialist in it.

This is the view of someone who doesn’t get it, you are not alone a fair few pundits said similar things. Sport is pretty straightforward if you play well often enough success will come. England don’t so they won’t. Every now and then a team gets more than their fair share of luck. Plenty of championship sides have gotten to semis and finals. As they were shit they have performed above expectation even with the luck.

If you are saying England are shit and no matter who they played you couldn’t imagine they could get to a semi then well done for being happy. England are like millwall or chesterfield so enjoy. Maybe next time we can get Iceland in a semi, oh hang on maybe not Iceland.

I'm going to contradict myself about the Winning failure shite. To be honest and I'm not joking, me personally, I did not expect anything except good football. Not brazil 70 or cruyffs Holland. But decent football. What was upsetting the most was that Southgate had a free hit. He could have set the team up expansive ly and yes we probably would have got beat heavily and been criticised but we would of all understood what he was doing. A bit like pep in his first season. But hes taken the piss and from the off reverted to type. Formation has changed but it essentially the same football as his predecessors. I actually think on occasions Hodgsons football was better. I don't expect city football, but its been a while now and on Saturday it was like watching utd in white. It's a toss up results or a putting in place a type of football which will sustain the England team for years to come. Sadly I don't think Southgate is capable of delivering on either.

England don't need results in the nations league, they need to use to try and identify a more expansive effective style of players. If Swansea, westbrom, Bournemouth can come to City and give us a game, I'm not having it that the England current squad is only capable of countering a Spanish team in transition without their talisman silva who retired or Costa, who sat the game out. England don't need results in the nations league, they need to use to try and identify a more expansive effective style of players. If Swansea, westbrom, Bournemouth can come to City and give us a game, I'm not having it that the England current squad is only capable of countering a Spanish team in transition without their talisman silva who retired or Costa, who sat the game out. I'm terms of how Southgate and the fa, are blagging the fans and managing expectations, England are the Arsenal of Europe, without the discernable style of play or recent history of actually winning competitions.

We reached a semi final of a World Cup. Youngest squad at the tournament, everyone had a great time back home celebrating . Why the glass half empty way of looking at things all England ?
