England v Uruguay

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. We currently have no top class players and a mediocre manager to boot.

A country of 3m people produced a team with more talent.

Get used to it.

It's not about world class players imo, that's a cop out. The sign of a great team, is being better than the sum of the parts. Teams like Colombia, Chile, or Atletico Madrid, they aren't filled with great players, but they work together and pick the players to get the best out of their top players. I honestly can't remember an england team that got even close to being as good as it's individuals, yet alone greater

If the first is a cop out I think that is as well to be fair. We neither produce players good enough nor play better than the sum of our parts, and we need to do both if we want to win the World cup again. A team of crap players can be better than the sum of their parts but still be crap, after all.

In the words of that famous man, they thought it was all over... well it is now. I look forward to Greg Dyke, Danny Mills, and the dinosaurs on the FA commision (including that genius Rio) blaming it all on johnny foreigner, and City for the next 3 months. Happy days.

Costa Rica disagree tbh, their "star player" is a man who can't get a game at Fulham. Chile and Colombia are also half full of champiosnhip level players and seem to look far more of a team than we ever do. They just use the worse players to help get the best out of their best players, while we attempt to cram as many of our "best" players into a team with absolutely no consideration of how it will work

We must be the only team who went to the tournament without a single defensvely minded midfield player in their squad

Don't forget Costa Rica are missing one of their best players in Oviedo, and their top goal scorer Saborio. Chile have a system, that was brought in by Bielsa, every player knows their role, and suit it perfectly. England actually might be better going back to the standard 4-4-2, playing long balls and crosses to a target man and a goal poacher to feed off the flick ons, with a strong defence, and a solid, hard working central midfield. In time, with better, technical, more skillful players they could evolve from that.

This England team, collectively, is every bit as shit as it's individuals mate.

Can you name an English one? I can't. Too much 4-4-2 shite for us to produce a holder.
