I thought this was something we should think about in terms of transfer activity at City. Which English players would you say we should bring in at City that will help the team right now or in the near future and is realistic.

NOTE: I know that with the emphasis on the Academy in 5 years or so we'll have more organic English players in our team.

The only one realistic and good enough would be Shaw to replace Kolarov, but Danamy I think reckons Arsenal and Chelsea are at the front of the line for him. There's really not many other realistic options who are good enough for us. A Wilshere would be great but imagine the figures.

I think we have to move away from nationality in terms of players and use the term academy players, and the ideal age to sign them is at least three years before their 21st birthday. If we manage to get some English players coming through good if they are from Manchester even better.

Lee Hughes from Derby

Sam Byram from Leeds

Luke Shaw from Southampton

Conor Hunte from Chelsea

I am a HUGE proponent of having at least 1/3 of your squad being from the country of the league.

Developing homegrown talents is vital to success of the country, the economy and the league.

England will NEVER fix its NT issues if big teams dont start using more homegrown talent.

Of course, this is a very simplified explanation, but true.

Does EPL not have rules that require a certain number of homegrowns on a roster? Or "non-eu" purchase limits like Serie A for example?

Yeah, Shaw would be a great signing.

-- Thu Jul 11, 2013 5:44 pm --

How about swapping Sinclair for Oxlade Chamberlain.

Shaw would fit nicely once Kolarov is gone.

Problem always is either quality or price. Shaw is one of the few who are good enough quality, but there are probably foreign alternatives for a fraction of the price.

AC the only rules we have on players are the CL rules which state to have a squad of 25, 4 must come out of the academy - no nationality involved so eg Rekik who has gone on loan to PSV is Dutch but he has been at our academy for the last couple of years by the time he attains the age of 21 he will be "homegrown" for the rules.

As for the prem league you can only have a squad of 25 if 8 players are from English/Welsh/Scottish academies again no restriction on nationality so eg Bale is Welsh but is classed as Association player so qualifies, same for us regarding Clichy he is French but came out of the Arsenal academy.

We don't have quotas on English born players.
