english players

Barry and Lescott are 100% gone, Richards they wanted to keep in pre-season, but the way this year is going for him put together with his contract situation, could see minds being changed. I think he'll go in the summer unless he suddenly finds a class vein of form.

There's also Milner, who will be entering his final season at the end of this year. We have to either offer him a new deal or sell him this summer, most probably. If Richards goes, I think he'll get a new deal tbh, if only because of the homegrown quota. I like Milner, but not getting a sense Pellegrini rates him ats a first 11 player, might like him as a squad player. But yeah we need english players badly, so can see Milner staying.

Rodwell will stay. Teams won't be breaking down our door for a perma-crock, and he's got a lot left on his deal. Pellegrini might not fancy him,

We definitely will have to sign/promote a couple of english players this summer tho, or we'll be in trouble to make the quota. Do Lopes/Guidetti count as homegrown?

UEFA rules which do not allow more than four English players who were brought through the ranks at other clubs – a quota filled by Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, James Milner and Jack Rodwell.

The Blues have fallen one short of the maximum 25-man UEFA roster, but are able to submit a list of players aged under 21 on the eve of the matches – so youngsters like Marcos Lopes, John Guidetti and Emyr Huws could travel with the squad.

Matija Nastasic is still under 21, but the UEFA rule allowing unlimited young players does not kick in until they have been at the club for two seasons, to prevent clubs buying and fast-tracking “wonder kids”, so the Serbian defender has to be registered as part of the squad.

Nastasic is not listed in the Premier League squad, as the under-21 rule is more relaxed.

25 man squad. Minimum of 8 players trained in England for 3 years between the ages of 16 and 21 (Boyata counts, for example) U21 players don't need to be registered to play. Also need 4 players trained at the club for three years between those ages for the CL.
Off the top of my head it is currently:

Hart
Wright
Richards
Lescott
Boyata
Clichy
Milner
Rodwell

Some of the younger players could be registered f course but it would take u squad places. I imagine we will try to bring in some young English players and maybe a few more experienced that are happy to play back-up roles if we do sell.

Champions League squad - Only contains 24 as not enough to satisfy homegrown rule

Goalkeepers
1 Hart
30 Pantilimon
48 Lawlor
63 Johansen

Defenders
2 Richards
4 Kompany
5 Zabaleta
6 Lescott
13 Kolarov
22 Clichy
26 Demichelis
33 Nastasić
38 Boyata
51 Drury
54 Kennedy
58 Facey
69 Swan
74 Plummer
88 Leigh

Midfielders
7 Milner
8 Nasri
14 Javi García
15 Jesús Navas
17 Rodwell
21 Silva
25 Fernandinho
42 Y. Touré
52 Huws
53 Henshall
59 Hutton
73 Glendon

Forwards
9 Negredo
10 Džeko
16 Agüero
35 Jovetić
76 Mayifuila
77 Cole

So Marcos Lopes is not registered for CL? Can he still make the list before the knockout rounds?

I can see all of Barry, Lescott, Richards and Rodwell going in the summer. Milner's an interesting one too, I think almost every city fan would keep him but he doesn't play an awful lot...?

Might have to bring Sinclair back
