I'm of the same opinion, I think he's keeping Vinnies seat warm bit like Pellegrini did pre Pep
 
Could I be the first to say "This ones on Enzo he is not as good as Pep" I know he has not been appointed yet but I just wanted to beat the rush when we play the first game with him in charge :-)

Yes they are and If I was choosing then I'd probably choose Vinny too,and maybe if he was available the club would or maybe not.I just don't believe it's some sort of plan,first because the club will want Maresca to be successful enough to extend and believe he can,second there is no way to know where Vinny,or anyone else will be in 3 years.

Yes it is. By people making the blind assumption that that is the main reason we are hiring him. I very much doubt him knowing the club was a major factor in the club hiring him. That would be ludicrous on our behalf. Personally, I believe Maresca has been hired because the club believe he can do the job of maintaining the highest standards. If you're saying it's weird people are using "he knows the club" as a principal reason Maresca should be hired then we're in agreement. That should be counted as an added bonus significantly minor to his managerial skills...

Wouldn't that be based on how we do under him? If he is highly successful in that time why would we be looking at another manager?

He is not (in quotation marks for all) the safe appointment, an interim appointment, the fall guy, the seat warmer, the best available, the closest pep imitation, or any of those assumed roles.

It is pretty clear he has been earmarked for some time.

According to all repotrs the club spoke to him and started the process while he was still at Chelsea. At that time, Vinnie and Enrique both were in the final year of their contracts, and Maresca had 3.5 left. The were far more 'available', so it is not a case of the club not going out to get them and settling for him instead. They chose to go for him over any other.

Not to be hypocritical, I have said I don't rate him as a manager (based on what I have seen at Chelsea) and even less so his demeanour.

But it is pretty evident the club really rate him and are convinced he is the guy, and not as a bridging appointment or any of those types of terms.

The expectation on him will be the same as it was of Mancini, Pellegrini and Pep.

It's quite possible that he has been a long term project all along, brought in to the U23 set up to learn the club, being an assistant, allowed to go Leicester to learn more, where he did well enough to ping chelsea interest to give him a go, but City have always been talking to him thoughout it all.

Problem is that our senior players like Haaland, Rodri, Gvardiol, Donarumma, Cherki. etc. need manager with big authority, otherwise it will be difficult to manage them and control the discipline.

If the plan is to sell these players and let Maresca build something on top of academy graduates and young unproven talents, then maybe it's OK

I see him more as a manager who is able to help young talents grow and teach system / philosophy.

But trade-off is that, you can't compete for major titles.

No one's said it's the main reason for hiring him. Again, you're making things up.

I don't really get why people so badly want Vinnie over Maresca. Obvious sentiment aside.

Enrique, sure, more tested and proven. Vinnie? Hardly so. His appointment by Bayern raises more eyebrows than Maresca’s with us imo. Neither stands out as particularly immediately obviously worthy of the role of that magnitude.
