Enzo Maresca

No Donnoramma

His way better than Trafford is at this stage.
I am not sure that this is true, if you watch the back half of our season. And I think you have to look at the situation in two years. I am convinced Trafford will be the best in the world, including playing out of the back. He will be what Eddie could have been like if he was an elite shot stopper too. So you can't let James leave.

Are you playing a back 5?

Or is this a treble system where Nico G/Rodri are a false CB who enters the midfield like Stones did?

Otherwise I don't understand the offball shape.

Think a lot more likely it's O'Reilly pushing into midfield with gvardiol dropping wide (of course they'd rotate too).

O'Reilly Gvardiol Dias/Guehi Khusa

Would make that work.

Or if you want both fullbacks to invert you play Gvardiol LB, Nunes RB and have O'Reilly drop from CDM to CB (or try Gvardiol in that role with O'Reilly at LB).

The team looks built for Maresca to me. The one question mark is can he accommodate Erling and effectively playing with 9 men in the build up as Pep tried to.

I think we line up like this with either Phil or Cherki in the ten. With Doku and Semenyo high and wide like Maresca likes his wingers to be, with Nunes being the attacking outlet from full back with O'Reilly drifting into midfield to make that box and outnumber other teams in the middle. Dias being the senior centre back that Maresca likes to have in his defence. His 4-2-3-1 formation that counters teams trying to transition quickly

Agree with that though the videos I’ve seen, small sample size as it is, he seems to want to beat any press with his keeper pinging ballas in behind to his high and wide wingers. i was wrong about Pep /Dunnarumma so standing by to be wrong again, but sounds more Trafford than Dunnarumma to me.

Rodri off to the Spanish Rags?

That would make sense but there was no fullback in midfield, just actual midfielders.

Have a look at my earlier post replying to a couple of blues whom I replied to about this earlier in the thread.

As an old blue, my gallows humour is in me. Younger ones won't get it as they've been lucky enough to see the best we could ever be, and some might not accept a drop in success. Pep has spoiled us all, and I will still be here even if we go back to being shit city.

In pairing Gvardiol and Dias you have 2 CBs with little pace

I’d love it if City saw Trafford as our long term bet. That would mean a word in his ear’ole and some run-outs in the League.

He’s one of us, too.

Donna’s one of the best shot stoppers around but shite with the ball at his feet.

No idea where Maresca would come from on this, though.

He’s farm boy from Cumbria isn’t he, unless that isn’t what you meant by one of us

Can't say I'm all for Maresca. Not sure he's top level.
But that clown Kaveh Solokol (SSN) says he doesn't seem to like journos and especially Kaveh himself, so I'm all for him now!!!!!!!!
This brings me joy. Shows Cryuff and Pep DNA in topics other than tactics. Cryuff famously disliked football journalists because they lacked football intelligence. His sentiment being: you can’t see it if you don’t know what you’re looking at. He recognized most were mouthpieces of the powerful rather than neutral reporters, and mistook access for understanding. In comparison, Pep has been less directly hostile but has put journos in their place when it comes to respect and boundaries.

100% Cherki is starting over Phil in that idealized lineup

If he's planning a team without Khus then he can go.
