Enzo Maresca

I think there might be a delay in appointing Maresca because Chelsea will claim compensation. It is possible that City would have been working on that but I doubt we would initiate discussions whilst Pep was in the job.
Think there will be a delay regardless they will continue to honour and celebrate the past 10 years first. The club will also know timing is everything and its important respect is shown

I’m sure our ducks are already lined up, but as you say it’s time to be respectful and do it the right way

It's important that the new coach gets to work on plans immediately but I guess that can be done by Viana and Maresca behind the scenes without a big fan fare.

I expect there will be numerous good news stories next week, with contract extensions announced, and then, before the World Cup starts, the new manager will be officially announced.

The only reason for a delay.

On Monday out players will be at parade, on Tuesday/Wednesday they will be leaving for the WC, hopefully some time in there, he can meet those staying, doesn't have to be official, but I imagine he's already being paid by the club.

If he’s appointed it is a continuity one. Makes sense. I hope he relooks at everything though. Our fitness and injury record hasn’t been good, and despite being excellent a few years ago our set pieces aren’t great. Improving those 2 would make a big difference.

On Donnarumma’s kicking game, n’all:

1. Good short passing game, much better than he’s given credit for
2. Very poor long passing game, can only just get the ball past the halfway line and when he does it’s erratic and often nowhere near where he’s aiming. Often this puts us under undue pressure as the opposition get the ball back to attack us. This season we have faced more shots on our goal than any season under Pep.
2. Is a technique issue and very coachable.

I don't know what this means but a few vids I've watched and asked someone that had Maresca as their manager, Maresca likes his wingers to be wingers not to have any other role. I asked does that mean he likes them high wide but he just said he likes them to be traditional old school wingers.

If it was he would have been coached and better.
I’m a keeper you can absolutely learn and be tough how to deliver a long ball. If no one has raised it with him, or if he hasn’t recognised and worked on it, then those are separate issues. You can absolutely learn how to kick a long ball

Competing for four trophies until the end every season will take its toll, especially with a small squad.
I think that set pieces may come under a lot of scrutiny next season and the perceived advantage that some clubs have may be reduced.

In terms of continuity, Maresca has a lot going for him. He knows the club and players and he understands the tactical principles that underpin what we do.
I would not be surprised if a former player also comes in which would potentially assist that process - Fernandinho or Gundogan spring immediately to mind - especially with the news that Lijnders wishes to move on.
