Enzo Maresca

It's got to be this week
I think he is already working in the background and City is sorting out compo at Chelsea's end

New signings normally happen before the World Cup, but I feel it's now a bit too late to get everybody on board
It's going to be a crazy World Cup and summer with it being 4 weeks and little pre-season for clubs and players

Agreed mate. City need to demonstrate stability to new signings and give Maresca the best chance of a successful first season. Plenty of uncertainty at other clubs and City have the benefit of a pre-planned successor who has essentially been preparing for this since November. Important that is presented publicly though.

For me personally I disagree on the first part.

Its not about the winning trophies (especially cups- you need a bit of luck for that for starters) - but its about how we play, the style in which we play.....Pep brought us attractive, beautiful football and this is what I want to see continue. Slott in his first year took what Klopp did and went with it...won the league.....second year ripped it all up and went for a new way (ironically trying to copy Pep more) and it failed badly.

I want to see our style of play continue with advancement to use physical and techincal players.....NOR being an example of a player that embodies both aspects whereas Semenyo has the physical but not the technical and RAN the opposite....we need players that can do both...Look at Khusonovs improvement in his passing in only a few months.....players can be improved on the basics even at this level. Haaland has improved his pressing and assists - it can be done and this is what is now needed.

Vianna/Maresca needs to be clever - for me there have been a few dodgy transfers - some great - others not so....and Vianna/Maresca need to get allignment in this and get it right and this is the part that is essential - what everything relies on - our next few incoming transfers....both as players on the pitch and off it (which is why i dont personally like the idea of signing Enzo Fernandes - he has already proved he is a problem in the dressing room and we dont want that....Maresca bought him in once and that means to me his judge of character is off...that needs to be reigned in by Vianna and the other board members...this plus the quality of player is absolutely necesary....we need some proven quality in there - no more Savios please!
I agree that the style of play is critical but not that Pep's recent style was attractive. For a while now it has been hot and cold at best.

I'm hoping the new manager (almost certainly Maresca) fixes whatever is broken. It won't be easy.

Another good Substack article from Stefan about the concept of trust, and why Khaldoon, Soriano, Pep and Txiki worked so well together, whereas united's managerial revolving door, despite the quality of the actual managers, didn't. Although, maybe worryingly, that trust system is possibly starting to be built between Ratcliffe, Berrada, Wilcox and Carrick.

With the departures of key figures at City though, we'll have to re-establish that network.

The attack is broken. Otherwise we'd had scored the goals in loads of games to allow for inevitable defensive feckups. Usually it was broken in the first half with loads of spurned chances or nearly perfect link play. But sometimes our second half were the collapse or lack of cohesion.

My hope is that Maresca and Vianna first recognise the stuttering performances we've had and then combine to fix it.

Like I said it won't be easy because the cause isn't obvious.

Bloke managed a 60% win rate at Chelsea when his immediate predecessor was at 51% and successor was 48%. I think that says a bit about him. If he's hitting at least 60-65% with us then he's doing his job and I think that's thoroughly attainable.
Win rate is irrelevant if you lose rather than draw the other games. Points won percentage would be more useful and would remove cup wins often against lower division teams.

I have a feeling that Ratcliffe will ultimately be the thorn in that bush, his initial thought is always how to save money and not invest to recoup

Yet we still finished highest scorers with an attack that now includes the leagues top and third highest scorers,Doku has started to add goals, we won 2 cups and took the league to the last game. Room to improve ,yes, broken that's just reactionary nonsense.

Maresca is now a 'here we go' on a three-year signed contract.
Personally, I always wait for the OS to announce these things.

The attack is broken? We were the league’s highest scorers.

Time to get behind Maresca now and back him and the board.
Didn’t think we wouldn't mate.

The club and pep have chosen the next manager. We owe him as much support as possible. He could do brilliantly and he could fail. So what! City is on the map as one of the biggest clubs in the sport. As long as we stay competitive like pep said we be grand.
