Prompted by your response I googled 'leading UK republicans' and first result is a wikipedia page 'list of advocates or republicanism in the UK'. It's quite an interesting and in some ways eclectic list - some of them I am personally not keen on but numerous others I admire. Have to say those I might consider either strange or hateful are very much in the minority (and at least one of those who might qualify, I would not name for fear of incurring the wrath of Mad Eyed Screamer)
