Eric Garcia 2018/19 performances

He'll develop physically as he ages, but what he has upstairs is priceless. When you watch all of our current first-team central defenders, there is often a split second in their reaction times once they have released the ball. The passing comes easy enough, and they understand what they should be doing about making the angles, but it's not intuitive to all of them, and when they're tired they are prone to switching off. Garcia looks a born natural, similar to Foden; he's so comfortable there that I cannot see him playing further forward.

And, at 18, still growing!
To be fair, unless he is on a late growth curve, he won’t be getting significantly taller. But that’s not really an issue given he is already taller than Puyol, Baresi, Mascherano, Cannavaro (as @doobyedoobye pointed out) and a few other central defenders that we can all agree were fairly successful. And some of them had no where near the passing ability, vision, and calmness with the ball at his feet our Eric has shown, which is absolutely vital to being good enough for our system.

He will develop more muscle, though, which will definitely help him in the position (though, judging by his ushering/bullying of the Burton forwards, he is already strong for an 18 year old).

Let’s just hope he doesn’t take advice from Micah on proper strength training. ;-)

Lump it long to Fellaini, same as they would if Otters was there?

Lump diagonals into the box, at Fellaini, tie up the other cb with Lukaku. Which means Walker has to leave his man, to try & prorect Garcia, leaving a Utd player free.

Be close to impossible to stop them creating chances. Same would go for Spurs etc & half the Premier League.

Garcia is a superb footballer but as a cb he only has half a game at the moment.

He's 6 cm taller than Fabio Cannavaro

Did he pack it in about ten years ago ? Not sure you can compare the aerial bombardment that is still prevalent in some Premier league games to the more technical Italian game , similar to Mascherano he proved a great central defender at Barca , but again La Liga isnt an elbows and snot type of football. In the Premier league i would rather have a good big 'un than a good little'un at centre back ,but Garcia is one for the future he's mobile enough and reads the game really well ,ideal holding midfield player material , time will tell.

If it is as easy as you're describing it then Peter Crouch would be one of the best strikers of his generation. While I agree that being 1,82 is short for a centre half, it's far from a disastrous problem if he can develop other defensive strengths. For example I think Otamendi is only 1 or 2 centimeters taller than him atm. I'd have no problems with him being fourth choice next season. Rather integrate him to the first team than buying De Ligt.
