Erling Haaland grabbed two of Norway's nine as they thumped Armenia on Tuesday night before limping off.
The Borussia Dortmund star was hauled off at the break having already scored a brace but appeared to be in considerable pain. Norway continued to run riot without him as Watford's Josh King scored a hat-trick whilst Martin Odegaard laid on several assists.
There has been no diagnosis on Haaland's injury as of yet, but it will certainly capture the attention of his club and those circling this summer. The Norwegian is arguably football's hottest property and
is poised to move on this summer when his release clause becomes active.
Liverpool transfer chiefs should notice Gareth Southgate's subtle Jude Bellingham comment
Manchester City and
Real Madrid are among those tracking the 21-year-old, who has scored 80 times in 82 outings for Dortmund. However, after he was hauled off, attention may again turn to Haaland's injury record, which doesn't make for great reading.
The forward will demand huge wages wherever he goes, but any club will want such an investment to pay off and will need Haaland fit for the biggest games. Since joining Dortmund the Norwegian has missed 29 games in a little over two seasons.
That also includes
Champions League games and cup fixtures, but it remains an alarming amount of time on the sidelines. Haaland was unable to help his team see off Rangers in this season's Europa League as he watched from the stands.
Erling Haaland has spent considerable amounts of time on the sidelines with Borussia Dortmund
Haaland has struggled with knee and muscle problems whilst in Germany. He has twice missed seven consecutive games - the first occasion was due to a torn muscle fibre and he sat out for a lengthy period this term as he struggled with his hip flexor. Since October 21 Haaland has missed 14 games due to an accrued absence of almost ten weeks.
City were linked with Harry Kane in the summer, a man who has also had his own injury problems. Their attention may well divert to Haaland instead given his age, but will hope the forward can stay fit. Madrid meanwhile are also eyeing Kylian Mbappe, who is free to leave PSG this summer when his contract expires.
Odegaard, who was signed by Los Blancos as a youngster, revealed recently that Haaland has asked him about life in the Spanish capital ahead of a potential switch. He said: "We are good friends so we talk about lots of things, like when I was there. So yeah we talked about it but it’s not anything special."
