Why would any club or player tie themselves into a binding contract before they could be officially registered.
Are you telling me City or any other club would leave themselves open to losing 64000000 pounds, if something went tits up , before he was officially registered.
As you say he can't play until the registration window opens, which also happens to be on the same day as the transfer window opens, which is what we will be doing when we complete his transfer/registration from his present club.
Perhaps I’m missing something here but from what I’m reading I am certain this happens all of the time.

As far as I understand the only reasons a club cannot register a player is if the player doesn’t get a work permit, or there are not enough squad places.

Haaland will get a work permit for the UK.

As for other examples of contracts signed before being transferred/registered, we signed Bernardo for example, as far as I recall, before the transfer / registration window opened and he could be registered.

Registration only applies to competitions like the PL and CL, so you don’t need players registered for pre-season unless they have their own set of rules (i.e. Charity Shield).

Registration and agreements to contracts prior to the window opening is irrelevant as far as I undertstand.

We also know in at least some EU nations players can sign pre-contract agreements in January if their contract is expiring or has expired before 1 July. Those agreements cannot be reneged upon even whilst still registered for another club anywhere on Earth.

I always get a bit confused with these dates... Didn't Barcelona sign Ferran from us before the window opened as well?
