Erling Haaland

Don't want to derail the thread, but can you make up your mind who you would like to see City sign? Last week you were all over Lukaku, now it's Haaland, make your mind up.

We can't win a wage war. No point in even trying imo.

We can win the argument that we are the best long term destination for any great player who puts enjoying football above all else.

Imo it's not that we are better placed to win cups or leagues than our competitors. Its that you are training all week with a awesome squad and the best manager atm in the world.

If he is only swung by money then we have to move on, and longterm be happier for it (even if we lose tge next title as we did due to RVP's decision).

Also btw Pep adds a different dimension to the RVP argument.
Utterly agree though I think financially we can be in the right ball park. I utterly agree we probably won’t be the highest offer however given the financial realities I can’t see us being blown out of water by a competitor that makes a stupid offer e.g. Sanchez.

I assume looking at his career up to date development and sporting project have been equally if not more important and that his father holds a lot of influence in what he dies. Both factors should work in our favour.

In comparison to other English clubs I agree with all your points but in addition I think given he’s young and would be given time to settle & develop without the whole dreams of the club being placed on his shoulder and deemed a failure if he didn’t succeed, and he might have the opportunity to play with the greatest player to ever played the game & which 20 year old doesn’t idolise Messi? All in all we offer by far the best footballing proposition in England!

I honestly doubt Liverpool will compete, Chelsea spent very large last summer and are well behind us in terms of football. That leaves Manchester United who are the obviously competition, who will compete on money terms but I feel can’t offer the same football proposition as us also I wonder if we have a pull of the heart given his father played for us & they have a issue as one of their players ended his fathers career.

Of the European competition;

Real I question if they have the money & if Mbappe is actually there real target? Barca i think we can all discount as they simply can’t afford to compete and won’t be able to shift players as they’re on huge contracts.

Bayern, have a need, the resources and can offer the footballing project so they’re definitely strong competition, though I suspect they’d rather wait a year, but if forced i can see them moving for him. I think they’re strong competition though we can compete money wise with them.

Juventus/Inter i suspect aren’t looking to recruit a €100m forward they there both relatively strong up front and have to be financially hurting more than us as we have the huge premier league tv rights deals to fallback on.

PSG I'm not convinced will compete as they have mbappe who leads the line and I don‘t see him moving to Real this summer. I think there interest in Messi is real but I just don’t see the, competing on Haaland unless mbappe is sold, even then I could see them targeting Kane instead.

I think this summer Man United & Bayern are going to be our strongest competition for his signature. Haaland however has all the power here and the choice is effectively his and I have zero idea where he really wants to move, I just hope we can sell him on our football proposition and that that’s enough!

We can win a wage war against these teams at this moment in time. Definitely.

what kind of purist unrealistic talk this is? Maybe we should not offer him a deal, but instead tell him “do you want to play for us? Then YOU gotta pay US. Because it’s such a good opportunity for you”. Even identifying myself politically as a socialist, this kind of argument is ridiculous. Yes, we can convince him by showing our project, but don’t be naive, money is part of the deal, as it was a part of nearly every transfer we ever made. And in the biggest transfer in many summers, it will obviously play a part, and we shouldn’t be outspent.
:-) I'm not sure that it's realistic that we could get him to pay us. But great thinking outside the box Guscruz.

You could add Chelsea to that list as well

If there is bidding war, I think City are not going to participate in that. We never do.

If not Haaland then it has to be Mbappe or Felix ( he would probably suit us best given his profile).

If that fails sign top caliber attacking midfielder and move someone from midfield to false 9.

Mbappe would cost more than the top bid for Haaland even with his contract situation. There’s also the matter of if he’d even be interested or not.

I don’t think it’s clear that Chelsea will even come in for him given there spend last summer and if they do how they offer a more attractive package than Man United? Chelsea as they stand don’t even offer champion league football (which most likely is a pre requisite), they sit below Man United in the table and i doubt will financial out muscle United.

Although we probably equally won’t financially out muscle United, we can put a more attractive footballing proposition as we have the best coach in the world, might have the GOAT player and have consistently been the best team in England. We are a stable well run club who can offer him a platform to become the greatest player in the world!

I think this will most likely come down to the player himself and none of us know his mind, but looking the opposition for his signature I think United & Bayern probably pose the greatest opposition to us as they can put together the most attractive financial and footballing packages together and both have a need to recruit in his position.

I like the cut of your jib my friend.

Txiki dropped a major bollock when he didn't push the boat out for Van Persie and virtually gifted the 2012/13 title to the rags. We don't want a repeat of that debacle - If Haaland is a genuine target, we should go all out to make sure we get him. A striker of his calibre would more than thrive at City and we'd blow the league apart
You obviously don`t remember why VP didn`t join us.It had nothing at all to do with "Txiki pushing the boat out" to sign him.
At the time we had four strikers and he`s stated on more than once occasion that he chose the Rags because he was virtually assured of playing every game.Had nothing to do with us not paying enough !!
Still I assume that the story fits your agenda as a Txiki hater.
