This guy and a top quality centre midfielder and we would have a fantastic team again. We only need those two signings and we should therefore go for it and no reason why we can’t afford it.

rather than buy 4 average players.

he would add something different as well

Id say we also need a left back but I get your point

Our need for a striker is much, much greater than that of Bayern, United, Madrid, Barca etc so we have to be approaching this deal with as much aggression as possible to get it done. We simply need this guy, he's an astounding talent with past links to the club, get him in no matter how many toes have to be stepped on

I agree Bob but we won't will we.

We might be prepared to go to £70m

Messi free and wages covered by commercial deals. This guy 70 million?! A left back 40 million and we have some team next season.
70 mil will only buy one leg if he keeps scoring for fun mate. We need to buy him whatever it costs as his value is increasing weekly.

Not arsed about Messi though. Too old and wanted for commercial reasons above his footballing skills. And there's no guarantee he'll light up the prem at 34.

Messi is better now than someone like Silva was in his prime, so not really in agreement on the skills part.

I’d love to see us splash out on Haaland though.

Messi is unproven in a league commonly regarded as the toughest league in the world. Silva proved himself for 10 seasons here. The argument about Messi being better than Silva, well I'm not arguing, he is(for now). But Messi has played all his career in a soft two horse league where they throw themselves to the floor as soon as anyone makes contact, especially in the box! Messi is getting too old and I very much doubt he can hack a tough new challenge here, and whether he still has the drive to succeed when he's getting clattered weekly. Besides, our club is about 11 players out there, and I won't be getting a semi on if I see Messi beating a few Burnley plodders and the like. And I don't want to see a media and gloryhunter wankfest. I can already imagine the tabloid back page headlines - MESSI GETS 'EM MESSY! : /

I think it’s been said about a thousand times in this thread, but I’ll say it again. Haaland has a €75m release clause!!

Who knows if he’ll ever develop the play making skills that Pep (or our next manager) wants from a striker, but this guy is one of the best finishers in the world at 20 and he’s only going to get better. His scoring record, especially in the Champions League, is insane.

Goal-scoring strikers are at an all-time low, players seem to be moving to goal-scoring wingers or aggressive strikers that create space & opportunities for those wingers. If we want to replace the deadliest striker in the league, he's the only logical choice.

We want to win the CL, we need goals, and he'll get them.

I read a few weeks back that the agent (Mino?) of Haaland has a habit of moving players on every few years.

As much as I'd love to have him here, I'd rather us have the security of keeping him - like Aguero, Silva, Toure, Kompany etc. did/have done - rather than losing him a few years on so the agent can get his next pay day.

Raiola is an arsehole. The rags are facing Leipzig tomorrow in a very important game to go through to the knockout stages, and Raiola has today said that it`s over for Pogba at United, trying to disrupt the dressing room. A pain in the arse to negotiate with, and as you say he would probably try to move Haaland on in 3/4 years. There`s a reason why De Ligt went to Juve for example, in a few years Raiola will offer him to Barca/Real/PSG/Bayern
