Erling Haaland

It’s a matter of whether we will do it before Pep leaves or after he leaves. A matter of time. And if the club is already considering he might leave after the current contract...

The thing about Haaland is, while they'll be insane competition for him, we're the only top European side that actually needs him. All our rivals both domestically and abroad have a player who can score 30+. We do not. If our rivals can sign Haaland as a luxury while we can't sign him despite actually needing him, we just look feeble.

But all our rivals will do so. It essentially means we can't access the elite calibre of players.
we can do it ONCE. and he's worth doing it once. we have to clear out a whole window for him and not think about anything else. we won't do it for any player, but I think it's a calculated risk to go big once.

We kinda have to or we accept not being at the top of the football ecosystem. We can't keep missing out on the superstars

This happy squad thing is a myth in most occasions. I’m not directing this at you btw. But if you bring a player like Haaland, it is to score many more goals than the rest of your players and to win some matches on those goals. If that is happening, he can be making a lot more than the rest, it won’t be a problem. We brought Grealish already earning more than any of our players but Kevin. We had that trash who is in jail making more than many players who contributed a lot more and even then you didn’t hear discontent. The source of problems is usually when you have players doing nothing and getting a lot of money. Players can’t have childish behavior sometimes, but to think they’re all going to act as a jealous and spoiled collective, it’s silly.
For a player like Haaland, we wouldn’t be prohibited by wages that Chelsea and United can afford too, for instance.
Pep has often stessed the importance of a happy squad.

Think of the financial cesspool Real, Barca and the big name Italian clubs are mired in because they decided they "have to" buy superstars. Fantasy financial planning. I think our owner is smart enough to do what we need to do, buy quality, not headline grabbers.

Its not a myth at all.

Guardiola admitted in January 2019 publicly that we could not pay FDJ as much as our top earner for squad happiness. Barca paid it and he went there.

Bayern are struggling to renew deals due to Sane's wage.

Wage structure thing is real. Sanchez wage caused wage inflation at United too. De Gea is on 400k a week which is absolutely insane for goalkeeper.

If you think we are paying Raiola €50m you are living in fantasy land.

Haaland is not getting done for this reason.

We could just continue to build elite calibre teams without buying big name players, as our record over the last 10 years proves.

We did bring in big name players, we broke the bank for Aguero and it served us very well. There's only so well we can try to be cute and clever in the market until we need to actually replace genuine titans of the modern era.

It's not because they have bought superstars, they've just not had the ability to surround them with quality. Financially, they're struggling but not because they've bought superstars.

Football isn't just a game of the pitch, alot of it is optics, PR and ego. At some point, push comes to shove and you need to establish yourself at the top of the table. If City keep missing out on the headline grabbers, we're not a club to be feared in the market.

If we can't sign the most sought after player in the position that we need while another European giant can sign Haaland as a luxury, we accept our place as below them in the football ecosystem. Being principled is a great stance to have but our rivals are not and are prepared to go further than us and it's an inevitability we will fall behind.
