Erling Haaland

And that is the point. There are no guarantees whatsoever so those saying we would smash the league if he comes may well be wide of the mark.
I think the expectation with every world class player is that they may take a period to adapt but eventually they will all show their potential especially when we have a manager that is known for bringing out the best of all of them in time. I don’t think most people here would expect him to “hit the ground running” as you say, but some rush to judgment as we have seen with Grealish as well

So it’s still fair game to call Ligue 1 a ‘farmer’s league’ because there are few home-grown players in it?
It’s a derogatory term and it’s abusive. Not unlike what we have to put up with with ‘petrodollars’ and ‘Arab money’. And we are quite rightly offended by those terms.
It’s a label to describe a league, fair enough you don’t like it and appear, in my opinion, to be overly sensitive about it. Like a lot of modern day society there is a tendency to be offended and feel the need to shout this from the roof tops repeatedly.

I respect your opinion for it but you must be into double digit posts ‘arguing your point of view’ which is a shame because I came into this thread to read about whether we might sign Erling Haaland.

For the record I really hope we do!

I am of the opinion that the PL does see some dreadful football played, such is the desire, above all else, to stay in it because of the rewards available. We see 10 behind the ball in many, many games and that has nothing to do with the beautiful game.

I’m not an easily offended person; quite the opposite, in fact. I made one simple point that I find the labelling to be offensive, hypocritical and completely unfounded. Other posters decided to justify their reasons for using the term, and I chose to reply with my reasons. It seems it’s fine on here to belittle other leagues but not for us to be offended by the abuse we have suffered. It’s the sheer hypocrisy I don’t like. Had I known it would escalate like this, I would have said nothing.
Btw, I couldn’t care less about French football. CTID

Wont be long before "Agincourt" and/or "Trafalgar" gets wheeled out, francophobia is in the DNA of many english, a fact johnson used to get brexit done.
Any and every chance to insult french people, customs, food cars etc. must not be missed, just as the rags and mickeys are, though not likely to last as long (coming up to a thousand years since the battle of Hatings, pun intended). To admit to being offended by a comment, is to invite repetition of the comment on a loop, (playground rule number one), in perpetuity,
As the old chestnut avers, " 'Aters gonna Hate" . Amen.....

Methinks you’re looking to be offended, so enjoy it!

I’ve said nothing about Farmers, only pointing out even French National Tram players have to escape their own league, unlike the England team.

And, I don’t get offended by those “abusive” terms, because they’re true, whether I like them or not.

I guess, like quality of leagues, we have a different standard for outrage and abuse.

As I said, it’s borderline racism. Not what I expect from supporters of a club like ours

I've never understood this concept that players get upset at the ideas of other players earning more. Surely it is the opposite, it raises the ceiling and means they will eventually get paid more. Same as in any job, really.
It strengthens your hand in negotiations for sure. And there is surely, given how fast these things move, a sense that anyone incoming is going to be on more than you if you signed your contract 3 years ago. One of City's great strengths of recent years is getting players resigned early, and those that aren't, like Sane and Sterling, seem to be football related over finances. We are a very professionally run club, I trust them to make the right decision on this.

Yeah Kev has signed his last big contract now I think, So I don't think he's really a factor in what we pay future big name stars. He got paid very well, a bit more than we wanted to give him per the reports on his last deal so he got his and deservedly so, but that removes any negotiating power he might have had in that regard. No-one is signing him at his age with what it would cost to get him out with how many years he's got left, so we can pay haaland a lot more and it is what it is.

There isn’t a significant change from how we play to suit him, especially considering the physicality demands. The team sort of is just waiting for a center forward if you observe it. As for the other point, you can just look at players like Ibrahimovic (who is actually slightly higher than Haaland and at 40 is playing for the second place of a top European league) or Cristiano Ronaldo who is someone Haaland mirrors and whose body is comparable too. One thing that isn’t talked about much in this thread is how smart he is on the pitch at escaping impact from the other teams’ players and imposing himself. Reminds me a bit of Diego Costa in that regard
Haaland has missed 7 recent games for Dortmund with a hip flexor injury and many attribute that to Norway’s failure to qualify for the World Cup. He is only 21, time will tell if he maintains his physical levels of Ibrahimovic with his disciplined martial arts background and I hope he does. Ronaldo is a completely different player who has involved from a winger to a striker over a long career, I really don’t see any parallels, he plays the game in more controlled manner and doesn’t impose himself physically like Haaland. Costa has had plenty of injuries including 6 months off with a Cruciate Ligament Rupture.

Look I hope we get him and he has an awe inspiring record breaking career with us but he is not superman and we need to be wary of his limitations as well as his considerable talents.

We have worked ourself into a very strong position of calling the shots in the transfer market, long may it continue.

Nothing border-line about it, even wrapped in a st george flag. Especially wrapped in a st geotge flag. Surprised though that your expectations are so altruistic after 11 years membership, mine lasted about 5 minutes.
Anyway, i can hear a mod getting ready to lecture us on threads and tracks and stuff.... merry whatever...

is everything aimed for a summer move or if ferran leaves could we tempt them next month? Would be a HELL of a statement in the january window and would send a message to the dippers and chavs.

I've stated a few times, even though Raiola is meeting interested parties in Jan, I don't believe there is any chance of him moving next month.

I think City are happy to go with what we have, knowing Haaland is off the market at this present time.

City have been offered Vlahovic and that is the only shock deal I could see in Jan, and that would be a sickener in terms of Haaland for me.
