I heard about this project initially on a well known political agenda website but thought it was a wind-up, now i've just seen this article on the BBC and it confirms;

Chelsea trial for Asians

Premier League champions Chelsea will give six Asian players a week-long trial at the club as part of their search for an Asian football star.

The six were chosen after recent trials at the club for Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani and Sri Lankan players aged between eight and 13.

It is the scheme's second year and 450 players turned up for three days of tests watched by Chelsea's coaches.

Now this is a Race Issue and this does in my opinion take the human race almost back 5,000 years were SlaveMasters would seek specific races of people to work for their businesses.

Now these boys won't be whipped (presumably)
But this for me is going about encouraging ethnic minority participation in football in the wrong way.
Sure Asian Youth are under-represented in this game but just holding a competition excluding people based on their race isn't right.

All the money The Roman Empire has, they could assist local councils in areas with large Asian populations such as Bradford/Burnley/Oldham/Bolton in creating high quality sreas for the lads to play the game, networking with schools and parents to encourage their children to use the facilities.

Not just poaching them out of obscurity based on their genetical traits.

Can you imagine City coming out now and saying; Today we have launched a campaign to find The Premier leagues first Albino football player...

Wasn't so long ago that City were trying to find the Premier League's first Thai football player. Or is that somehow different?

it's not different at all no....
Although I could eventually get myself registered as a Thai National we won't be petty here...

Chelsea are specifically recruiting Asian Youth... they are under-represented but I feel investing in these communities is far more a benefit for them then just poaching them from obscurity.

How could you?

There probably are better ways of investing in the long-term future of Asian youth, and who knows, maybe Chelsea are? They're obviously just trying to fast-track the process a bit for short-term gain as it may be 20 years before they see any sort of benefit from their longer-term initiatives. Don't really see a problem with it.

Fair enough, hopefully the apparent setups in your neck of the woods operated by City will produce far better quality players?

as for Going Thai - yes it is doable, would cost me alot of money so to save myself hassle and cash I wouldn't do this but: Marrying a Thai National over there and having children with her would play in my favour.
oh and then the bck hander.

I believe its far easier for females though when marrying Thai men.
So maybe a sex change and marrying a ladyboy?

Ok slightly controversial but the reason that there are not many Asian origin players in British football is down to the fact that they are very under represented in junior / youth football Where football clubs tend to look for talent from age 6 onwards. I think this is due to a insular outlook and until the Asian community intergrate more then the talented Asian footballers will not come to the attention of main stream scouts.plus from personal experiance i have played with some very good Asian players one in a local league who had played to a high standard semi pro and the amount of abuse (some openly racist) he received was staggering
