Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

But also, if we had a proper vocal stand set-up, it would be more conducive to an atmosphere. Great numbers, greater noise, not hard to hear in the rest of the ground, not trapped between areas where the atmosphere doesn’t spread, not oversung by the away fans

we as fans need to push the club on this. Surveys, fan groups, regular fans - we need to show the club the benefits of creating a home end. Obviously it’s easier said then done, but somethings got to change

when ss level 3 was built
only existing season card holders were allowed to buy season cards
me and my son moved from the " dead and sterile " family stand
I thought and hoped it would be full of raucous and niosy fans

it was the first season ( 2015 if I'm right ) and as now descended into apathy
like most of the ground.

there can be no excuses

if we want,we can rock like fuck

but sadly our match going fanbase cant be arsed 95% of the time.
Last time I sung in SSL3 the old git behind me told me "it's not a choir".

I said I gathered that because no-one joins in

When you’re in the area that creates the atmosphere, it always sounds good when that area is particularly vocal.

SSL1 were good. Then 109-111 were good, with splashes of people dotted about here and there.

The rest of the ground was awful. And, as always, there aren’t enough people in 109-111 and SSL1 to make it sound like it’s a good atmosphere in the whole stadium. Just far too small those areas.

Having a good atmosphere at City sounds like having a good set of away fans in. Good in our small pockets of vocal fans that we have, but the general atmosphere of the Etihad Stadium is poor.

Yesterday, I’d describe the atmosphere across the stadium as ‘not bad’. 4/10

And atmosphere isn’t just about singing, certainly not singing all game. The atmosphere at Palace is poor, they’ve got a little corner where a few hundred band geeks sing all game but the other 95% in their ground are silent.

We had a great atmosphere against Liverpool in January 2019 where we hardly sang any songs all game. We sang at the start, sang after each goal, and sang at the end… but other than that we barely sang at all, but it was just an atmosphere where everyone in the ground was involved in the game.

As I am in the area that try and make an effort then for me the atmosphere is generally good. The debating society behind me who at periods in the game talk about films and other shit while totally ignoring the game drive me mad, but on the whole it's decent.

That last sentence actually probably explains it. Except for maybe eight games at home the matches follow the same predictable pattern, the opposition defending and us keeping possession and probing for an opening People as a result drift off and it goes quiet. It's the same once we go two or three up. Norwich yesterday just wouldn't attack even then except for maybe three breakaways. I guess we are a victim of our own success. We are so dominant there is little for the crowd to get worked up about. It becomes a bit same same. We don't hate teams like Norwich either so there is no needle.

That's it in a nutshell.

I sit in 93:20 East and I swear half the people round me have been hypnotised to become motionless at the sound of a kick-off whistle. Miraculously wears off by the 80th minute when they can suddenly move faster than sugar off a shovel.

There was a girl and her dad used to sit in front of me and I bumped into her and her mum at the Watford cup final. She introduced me to her mum as 'the crazy guy who sits behind us'. Made me proud, that did.

It still doesn't work well split over three tiers but I don't think our ground design will allow one non tiered open end. Spurs got it right and the kop at Liverpool. Once the fans are split where they can't see or hear one another it reduces the effectiveness at least 50%.

I understand your point. Still, very loud from most parts of the ground. Don’t know what it’s like there week in, week out, but at our place that’s very much the exception rather than the rule.
We routinely win 95% of our home games. The atmosphere for the other 5% is easily comparable with Spurs or any other home crowd.

I’m not sure that’s true. But what about merging two tiers?, for instance south stand level 1 and 2 or we could create a large second tier in the north stand, with rail seating - ie a proper home end

I'm in SS1 and I have no idea what's happening above me, I can't see or hear them so there is no connection at all.

Unfortunately our stadium is just not conducive to a great atmosphere. The tiers and the fact that the distance from the first row of tier two to the other side of the pitch is massive is a problem. I would love a brand new stadium like Spurs if I am honest. One designed with atmosphere in mind.
That's bollocks , if it was true we would never have had any great atmospheres, how did we create what we did against Hamburg in the same stadium if it cant be done ?

Went to Spurs last week and, sad to say, the home atmosphere was so much better. Didn’t notice any early leavers. Different game I know but the difference was noticeable.

Thought Norwich were an embarrassment today.Wasting time at the start of the second half when 2-0 down. Clearly don’t belong in this league.
Thought the Spuds fans were shite last week. Especially as it was such a big game for them. But Spuds not singing has got to be a blessing. It's like finger nails down a blackboard when they screech Oh when the Spurs
