Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

One team in their city as well.
I think a lot of their fans deserted them in the 80s due to the thuggery at the very heart of that club, plus decline after the glory years plus the terrible effects of Thatcherism and deindustrialisation on that city. They would get big home crowds today if they had a bigger ground, and have always had a comparable away support to city.

I forgot they sung "Where were you when we were shit". Average attendances when both clubs were in the second division in the early 80s:

83-84 Leeds 15,173 City 26,694
84-85 Leeds 15,504 City 24,220
If only we all knew this during the game.
"you only got 15 thousand.... 15 thousand..you only got.....

Evening fixtures help. Fullish ground helps. Playing football from outer space helps. Win win win last night.

But the state of the back of 326 at half time - dafuq? Looked like Gru’s minions running amok with a box full of glow sticks. Any CB3ers got anything on his?

I'm in that area of the ground but I don't know what this means.

Just to be clear I like Leeds well enough. I went on their forum this morning and 99% of comments were about how much better we were than them and nothing else.

But yesterday before the game on a non-football Facebook page i'm on, some illiterate moron was going on about how City couldn't sell tickets and Leeds would fill our ground for us. Whilst I find this "we've got more fans than you" stuff incredibly infantile and pathetic for anyone over the age of 13 I couldn't help but to the trouble of comparing attendances. In the last 50 years literally the only time that Leeds had higher attendances than us was the few years before we moved to the Etihad when our capacity was lower than theirs and we were in the lower divisions whilst they challenged for the league. And even then it was marginal.

Even when they last won the league we got higher attendances and we were rubbish. That shut the daft twat up.
Leeds have won three League titles, one FA Cup, and one League Cup in their entire history. They have never had an average attendance for one season above 40,000. Their fans exist in a parallel universe.
For context Wolves have won three league titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups and have a highest average crowd of 45,466. Sunderland, Newcastle, and Villa also have historically much higher crowds than Leeds.

I mentioned in another thread they didn't average over 30k from 2005-2017...in most of those years they averaged around the mid 20k with a low of 21,572 in 2013,so like I've said before they can fuck right off......
Their fan base extends to most of Yorkshire or so they like to tell everyone so that actually makes these attendance figures worse.

Not exactly marching on together…

I've made the same point on numerous threads now, but it's been more than 20 years since our last relegation, and a significant proportion of football fans are too young to ever remember City being shite. Our masochistic gallows humour is now redundant, and Typical City is a mere fading memory.

Away fans are either being ironic, or just plain stupid.

Agree 100 per cent with this. We have not been truly shite since before the David Bernstein era. We were wildly entertaining under Keegan and never boring since (apart from the Pearce season) Anyone under 30 will not properly remember us being really shite. My favourite crowd moment was Everton fans (around 2010) singing: "You've got no history." Our rapid response was: "You've got no future." Brilliant. We need a better response to the "shit" song!

My one and only contribution to the singing section (inspired from listening to Madness and OUR HOUSE last weekend)
Simple tune and reflects a bit of history as well.

Getting 20k+ in the 3rd tier is great, even today, in 1998/1999, when crowds were much lower generally across the board, to get 28k-30k every week was unheard of.

Leeds have always had decent support, it’s just never ever been in the numbers seen at City.

I’m there and I’d just gone back to my seat in 326 when the lads who sit behind me came up saying couple of my mates who sit in 327 had got in a bit of mither with some Leeds morons, one punched by a **** with a key in his hand and another got a crack as well. Both ok but shouldn’t be in our end in the fucking first place.
