Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Another article in the MEN.

Richard Leese, Pat Kearney, and the city Council in general are absolutely scathing of SMG, calling them liars, etc.

The company behind the proposed arena is OVG.

OVG International is designed to establish the group’s arena and stadium presence in the UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

A snippet from the article.

Strategic development director Eddie Smith, added that the site being looked at by investors - understood to currently be City’s surface car park, north of the stadium - is ‘overwhelmingly in the ownership of Manchester City football club’.

Council chief accuses Manchester Arena bosses of 'spreading lies' in bid to stop rival venue in Eastlands
“What they’re doing is probably one of the worst examples of monopoly capitalism we’ve seen in this city for a long time,” said Sir Richard Leese of SMG, escalating a furious row further

I have been down to the City Store a couple of times in the last week & both times I have parked in the the big car park behind the North Stand, which means I have had to walk down Joe Mercer Way.

I love Joe Mercer Way or at least the concept of it. A big walk way approaching the ground with it getting bigger as you approach, The mosaic, named after a legend etc...

However, god it's looking run down. The floor looks dirty, the Joe Mercer Way signs are full of stains, the whole think is just a bit Meh & un loved when it should have that wow factor as you walk down it. What I noticed at the store is that we have a lot of groups/tourists doing the City tour (The City store was really busy with groups on Saturday when i was there) & a lot of them come on coaches that park in the big car park so they have to walk down Joe Mercer Way to get the Ground/Tour/Store. There first impression of the ground will be this run down dirty walk way.

To make it better we should be looking at - New Signage, Cleaning/re painting the floor, putting pictures or screens down the side to give it some life. Maybe looking at some stalls for a match day

Has anyone else noticed this?
The whole stadium surroundings are run down. There are a lot of dips and troughs of the floor where whenever it rains there are giant puddles everywhere. As you say, Joe Mercer Way is shabby. The paint on the floor looks poor, faded and filthy.

The stadium facade is the same. All the posters are tacky. It’d look better without them there.

The whole campus needs a good bit of upping in class.

Get rid of all the tat, get rid of all the shite colours that don’t age well either by feet or sun bleaching, even all the flooring out so you reduce the puddles, and make everywhere simple and classy looking rather than a jumble of things.

Other than all of that, just knock the Etihad down and start all over again.

We can share with United for 2 season’s. ;-)

Everton’s proposed new stadium.

CGI fly through.
