Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Looks brilliant. Could we have accommodated something of 28 acres on the campus?

Tbh if it wasnt for the government not wanting a major casino up here i reckon around our ground would look even more different.

Personally we are crying out for a large pub facility for people to go have a drink before hand, all the old haunts are closing down which is a shame.

Most that I'm talking about were families, I don't think many were corporate, just late arrivers/early leavers, I thought last night was a bit odd. EL3 even tried to get a mexican wave going a couple of times, *rolls eyes.

The kids in the North Stand and the hooligans in the South Stand should be handed vuvuzuelas on the way in. Nice to see that there was a drum in the South Stand. Perhaps half a dozen trumpets and trombones in the East Stand would good!

Scousers expanding Anfield to 61,000. 7000 extra seats.

The venue looks like it's right next to A6010. Should be easy to add a new bus route, or expand one if there already is one taking traffic along A6010 and then down Bradford Rd directly into Manchester. If they did that then we could have two major bus routes back into Manchester. At the moment it's difficult for people in the North and East Stands to get to the 216 bus rank, but if you put another bus rank on their side of the ground it would help traffic flow for the Etihad Stadium and the new Arena.

It will be interesting to see what emerges from these "discussions" with TfGM about increasing Metrolink capacity. The Mayor's transport strategy from a few months ago signalled the aspiration of increasing tram frequency at peak times on the Ashton line to one every 6 minutes.

If I was sitting on the City Council's side of the table I would be seeking a significant financial contribution from the developer (and City) to the costs of upgrading capacity on the Metrolink.

The arena plans mention shuttle buses and an organised taxi rank. Why can't we have that at the stadium now? It would make a huge difference.

Why do all these routes end up back at Piccadilly? Safe routes to the Metrolink (and a potential train station) at the Gateway plus one to Victoria and the new interchange proposed for Sandhills (near the Queens Road depot) would be nice. The distances are about the same and it gets people dispersed in different directions, it's just there's nothing along the way at the moment and aren't nice or safe routes, but these 'solutions' require very little investment and would save a fortune in adding extra trams just to run back into the city centre.

Anyone else agree?

I think they have bought more rolling stock and are awaiting delivery.

And if I was sitting on City's side of the table I'd be telling them to piss off. Metrolink receive a significant income from City as it is via fans paying, for what at times is a not very good service. In fact that Ashton line is probably the least used route, apart from City home games, so they should be thankful for the match day revenue.

So the next phase of consultation on the proposed new arena begins today with more detailed plans supposedly available. Here's the consultation site: https://www.eastlandsarena-consult.com/ - about to look to see what's new on there since the end of the opening phases of the consultation.

Below are details of the drop-in sessions, if anyone fancies heading along to one and reporting back on here.
I'm hoping to do that.

Manchester is famous around the world for football, and music. It would be great if the people behind the new arena incorporated a Museum of Manchester Music which included a much smaller venue for up and coming bands.

Correct me if I'm wrong but when the original purchase of the land that The Academy and the School sit's on that it was 80 Acres.
I'm sure someone on here did a calculation and it all added up to 79 Acres and people were wondering where the other Acre was.
It was said then that this missing Acre was the land that Mary Ds sit on and the bit of grass on the corner going up to AT Way.
I could be out on my Acres but there was definitely a post on this page about it a few years ago.

Piccadilly is home to bus, train and coach stations. It's the nearest part of the City centre with Ashton Old Road leading almost directly there.

I'd add a new bus route. If you go down Bradford road, you'd then cross Great Ancoats and could go direct to Piccadilly station by going on to Store St, or you could go along Great Ancoats St (which is where the 216 goes).

This bus route may already exist, but if doesn't looks good for the Arena. I think I've got its location right (red box)?

I think it's too complicated to have some buses going to Victoria Station and some to Piccadilly Station.
