Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I personally know quite a few hardcore home and away blues of the past who have sacked it off for various reasons in recent years. And that’s not counting the many on here who have said they feel less attached to the club than they were. The pricing of non-ST matchday tickets being just one major issue
Can't believe anyone can feel less attached to the club than when Swales was in charge? No one who chooses to sack it off is hardcore unless its for financial or health reasons

As for the so called singing sections if the club turned the tannoy off for 10 minutes there would be deathly silence.
So the answer is to ram deafening pop music and adverts down our throats instead? How does that improve the atmosphere?

It probably would be quiet for the first few games, but long term it would lead to a better pre-match atmosphere.

Agree , I think once the arena is open as I understand it there will be eating and drinking options built into it alongside the canal, that will be open matchdays, though not sure what happens if there is a clash with arena events. They should give much better pre and post game options hopefully.

remember when there was rumors of a spoons opening up where they are building this arena

Something is wrong when West Ham can pull 60,000 for their match against us on Wednesday night, but we can't sell out our PL matches, even though the team is currently 3rd in the PL, Pep is our Manager, and our team play beautiful football.

Does anyone know West Ham's pricing policy off the top of their heads? If not I'll have a look myself.

Its £10 adult and £1 kids.
It's also half-term week.

There's your reason in a nutshell.

I really annoys me when people keep on having a go at the singing sections. If it wasn't for the singing sections there would be little or no singing, or an atmosphere on a matchday at the Etihad.

Instead of constantly having a go at the singing sections and at the fans who go in those sections to sing and to support the team, make the effort and get in there yourselves, and join in the singing. You might make a difference instead of just complaining all the time.

There are some displays coming up. People set out those displays in their own time. There is no reward for doing that bar trying to improve the atmosphere, which hopefully inspires and helps the players and the team?

And it’s London, lots so called tourist fans. If your I londo it’s easy to get a ticket for West Ham, and the pricing is good even for premier league matches. If I was working in London that would be my team of choice at present. Especially when they play City. Cmon City

I doubt West Ham get many tourist fans. Their support is mainly local like ours.

You're probably right about ticket prices. I think their owners wanted to get the fans onside after a lot of unrest. One way to do that is cheaper ticket prices, as well as a successful team.

Average attendances so far this season.

*That Arsenal average attendance can't be true.

Arsenal report league attendance like we do - ie tickets sold or issued.

A couple of years back the Arsenal Trust did their own research and estimated there were on average 14000 empty seats over their sample size of matches.

The worst I've seen the Emirates was the 3-0 win for City in 17/18 when it was the coldest night of the year. Place was deserted - relatively.

West Ham have a v good range of ST prices like us (my issue is always with matchday prices) and they have lots of no shows like us for some games.

Interesting to do a comparison with pre-Covid. This was 19/20 up until the season was suspended. Quite a few teams seem to be a a bit down so we're not unique.

Don't forget that's before city took 1500 seats out for the advertising boards

True, and there seems to be less away fans generally. But I get the impression that we're not quite selling out so we're still a bit down. Hardly surprising when quite a few people feel vulnerable because of the pandemic, and hopefully it's given an opportunity to fans who might previously have struggled to get a ticket.
Away sales seem to be going down to lower points as well which is also a good thing because of opportunities for different people to get tickets.

Well said. We were rioting outside the main entrance in the Swales era. There's no doubt that modern football has moved away from its working class roots and I regret that. But that isn't City's fault and I still believe we are one of the best clubs around at supporting its local community. There have been some stupid own goals this season with customer services, ticketing issues, PR own goals off the field etc etc but it won't stop me following City.
I think the main issue is we have an ageing fanbase (probably the oldest in the PL and I am one of them) and when some people get older they don't like change. We will always lose a certain number of fans and refresh them with younger ones. Our away support is changing (and the cokeheads are increasing) but our fans have been superb this season at away games. We had a very raucous away support in the 80s and not all of them were angels.

My OCD doesn't like the fact the Etihad is now 52500 after removing those seats, would sit with me much better if it was 53000. Sort it out Sheikh.

I must be missing the point but why is 52,281 average against a maximum of 53,400 considered poor. Especially given circumstances and the fact that some of those 1,019 will be in the away section?

Yeah, they got 60K last weekend too didn’t they.

No disrespect to the people who set up displays - good on them for trying.

But they make absolutely zero difference to the atmosphere.

Some of them look decent and play quite well for the cameras and social media.

But atmosphere is something different for me. It happens organically based on the people there and the mood. You can’t pre-plan “atmosphere” - that’s what separates football from the American sports.

There are certain things you can do to lay the foundations for a good atmosphere - stadium design, ticketing policy, beer availability, but flags, banners and tifo while they have their place, do not impact atmosphere.
