Which is why I used the hydro as a comparison. That’s what will attract daily footfall.Tbf the hotel/s would largely serve the arena, the football customer base would be pretty small in comparison

100% agree mate, just attending an appointment with my Consultant who saw my City badge, he waxed lyrical about the stadiums boxes and facilities where he was doing Doctor interviews. He used to use the Reebok at Bolton and described the Etihad as light years away from it. I also have a Rag in-law who attended a couple of gigs at the Etihad stating, it does what it says on the tin a proper football stadium room to sit and great facilities.I hope you are wrong, the internal parts of the stadium are very good to excellent, but the exterior of the stadium leaves a lot to be desired, hopefully it will be a big part of the extension.
The interior is stunning and a majority of the facilities excellent. I love the exterior design but it just looks very tired and somewhat uncared for.100% agree mate, just attending an appointment with my Consultant who saw my City badge, he waxed lyrical about the stadiums boxes and facilities where he was doing Doctor interviews. Yeah I can’t see them doing anything to the stadium externally until every stand has been expanded. With the south stand corners being “temporary”, they’ve obviously got expansions in mind for the East and Colin Bell stands.I wouldn’t be surprised if we waited another decade to do the externals of the stadium as part of an expansions of the East Stand and Colin Bell Stand. I’d love to be wrong and it be part of the soon to be revealed plans though.
Red Dippers are usually only around once a season and are unlikely to stay in a CITY hotel
No comparison.....unless you strip the room and do a runner asa !!I stay in a Chelsea one.

Think outside of the box. Advertising on the roof would make the club some money.A retractable roof is absolutely pointless.
For those that think it’s a good idea take a look at the number of annual events held at the Millenium Stadium or the Ajax stadium with the roof shut. You can count them on one hand.
As for speculation on what type / standard of hotel it will be, I would look at the ones surrounding Wembley stadium / Wembley Arena for indications rather than ones surrounding city centre arena venues.
I'm not any kind of engineer but I can't see how any retractable roof could be fitted without removing all existing rooves and building some new supporting walls all around, could they even do it without closing stands. All sounds very expensive and all a bit pointless to me, also extremely unlikely.Think outside of the box. Advertising on the roof would make the club some money.

How far from the city centre is the Hydro, and what is /was the surrounding area like ?Tbf the hotel/s would largely serve the arena, the football customer base would be pretty small in comparison
I think we missed a trick not going for broke with the development during Covid with no crowd to cater for for 2 seasons. I understand that availability of construction workers and necessary safety protocols would interfere but RM have managed to do it, haven't they. Was it possible?
Nevertheless i'm delighted were now going ahead. I hope we don't miss the chance to make the Campus truly a great place to visit to eat, watch top line gigs, make merry and watch City.
At the time no one knew how long Covid would last anyway and as to what detriment it would have on football attendances.Real were already due to develop. These things take months, if not years to plan, so you can’t suddenly say ‘hey let’s quickly build a new stand while the fans are away’.
The hydro area is on the edge of the west end, which is like Chorlton or West Didsbury with a university - quite different from Beswick. How far from the city centre is the Hydro, and what is /was the surrounding area like ?
The Hydro also has the Science museum and the BBC officies just over the river, plus the SECC exhibition hall and the smaller Armidillo concert hall next door. The motorway and railway into the city are also next to it. So lots of reasons for hotel stays not relating to the Hydro events / concerts. Though all that said I can see why it's being used as a comparison to the CO-OP arena. The hydro area is on the edge of the west end, which is like Chorlton or West Didsbury with a university - quite different from Beswick.
That campus is approximately the same size as ours. It absolutely benefits from a motorway on its doorstep but I am sure there are lessons to be learned from it. Even basic stuff like how to manage a multi multi story car park without everyone having to wait hours to get out. Clue. It takes trained manpower. In comparison the management of our blue and green car parks is woeful. The Hydro also has the Science museum and the BBC officies just over the river, plus the SECC exhibition hall and the smaller Armidillo concert hall next door. @Saddleworth2 you are right to point out the Hydro in Glasgow as only 5 mins up the road from that is Ibrox Park, home of Rangers FC.As are the 6 or 7 located within 400 yards of the Glasgow Hydro. I am sure the club will be thinking this through but demand will certainly be there and the arena is going to be bigger than the hydro. Maybe they expect folk to stay in the town centre. All I can say to that is that’s not what I have seen in Glasgow. I wonder if the club have identified other parcels of land that could accommodate multi hotels and their car parks. Do we know if a multi story is being planned for the arena/match parking? There is much talk of cycling and walking. That’s surely not realistic for arena traffic never mind our more elderly match going fans. All exciting but lots to think about and if they get the access exit stuff wrong it has the potential to degrade what they are trying to achieve which is a brilliant world class sports and entertainment leisure destination.
