I really don't know how anyone can say Santa Cruz is a great addition, on any grounds, the benchmark should be to significantly improve and the forward line is weak thus simply being better than what we have got is not good enough. The question that should be asked is... Is this player someone that can push us into the top 6, clearly no. Is this player a player that can improve and contribute as we move up to that area of the league, again no. Can anyone honestly see RSC playing regularly for a top 6 side(let alone a top 4 side)?

The other issue is, he is not fit. He's been out with a knee injury since March and is still out.

Can we REALLY be seriously thinking of buying another striker with fooked up knees?

You know what really worries me.

Mark Hughes is a realist. It's been speculated that we might have real difficulty in recruiting overseas players because he is relatively low profile compared to Mourinho, Ferguson, Hodgson, Benitez, Zola, Wenger, Redknapp even. MH recognizes this and goes for Prem Lge players, arguing that they have PL experience.

My big fear is that the whole squad could unravel before the end of the year, if we do not make one more 'big name' signing b4 this window closes.

Really? What have those two done that Hughes hasn't? I could have sworn he played at the very top level in 3 different countries and managed his country.

I really think RSC would be a good buy and I definitely think he was playing half heartedly last season, even this injury he had has been pro longed by him I think in the hope someone would come in for him in the summer .. i.e us .. they've reduced the price and for £10-12M I think he will be a good buy and give us different options up front.
Plus when MH was in charge of him he was fit all season, I think this will be the case again ..
I've heard it all now, the manager "manages" player availability?? Well, Hughes must fucking suck seeing as we lost almost all our forwards during the season(including Bellamy)!

Hughes isn't a player anymore and forgive me if I'm wrong but hasn't Redknapp(much as I hate him)actually won something as a manager???

My point was not that he is still a player but that he will be equally well known and respected for what he as achieved as a player as many others, including the likes of Zola (what's he won as a manager?). The fact that Redknapp won an FA cup with Portsmouth is hardly going to make him a household name with the so called top stars, IMO.

I think you forget that most players have never seen him play, or indeed most managers, while it's true some managers can carry their playing career with them as an aid for transfers, unless you are truly world class it doesn't last long. Your point about Redknapp and dismissing his FA Cup success is a little unfair, because clearly it is a success and its more that Hughes has achieved and you asked what they had done that Hughes hadn't, that seems to me something fairly major.

Hughes has to achieve top 6, if he intends to honour that then he better get a damn sight better, fitter and more reliable than just RSC or he will be in trouble. tevez is good but wont score as many if rsc gets injured and is put up front on his own. there will be no excuse like injuries or lack of numbers if that happens. he knows the risks involved with bellamy and rsc so he will not get any sympathy if they get crocked and he didn't make contingencies.

Agree with all of this. I don't want to turn this into a Hughes-bashing thread, but I do wonder if he has the brains to have worked this out.
