Europa/Conference League Games | Semi Finals | 1/8 May '25

I think for the first time there is a genuine argument that there are more good teams and more competition in the two English domestic cups than there is in the Europa and Conference League combined. Every single decent team in europe gets crammed into the CL which also has its fair share of shite, leaving two other tournaments where we see also rans like United and Tottenham breezing towards a 90 minute test of who can bottle it the least, and an average Chelsea treating the Conference as a pre-season tournament rotating their squad and will win by default.

European football is in deep shit

Well for all your doubters who claim that the Rags luck would come crashing down tonight perhaps you should listen to those of us who have been saying pre quarter finals that their fucking name is on this trophy.
How ironic will that be if these twats win and get into the CL and dare I say it ... we don`t.
Aaaggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!
It doesn`t bear thinking about. ;) ;)

I would expect two English clubs to be contesting next year's Final as well.

It can't be blamed on United or Spurs, but the new format with no clubs dropping down from the CL has seriously weakened the competition.
Another rule to thank Gill and Co for , you only have to look at how many rule changes there's been since we qualified for the CL , tells you all you need to know

In a previous round there was 1 media story on how Chelsea should not be competing in their tournament due to the 1 Billion they have spent v no spending minnows.
Note there has been zero mention at all of the Rags with their 700 million squad playing teams who have spent pennies inc tonights opponents who have a net spend of 9 million over the last 4 years inc 3 of just free transfers.
If we are in this next season, watch the squad cost comparisons in every single game

I called this final all the way back in the group stage. Some pushed back suggesting united wouldn't get anywhere near it yet now they're one game of not being smashed away from the final whilst sitting 14th in the league.

As i claimed back then, the removal of the champions league dropouts makes this competition piss weak. It will be used as a means of getting extra English sides into the champions league for the foreseeable future until they recognise the pattern and change things once more.

Get used to having 6 premier league teams in the CL most years.

Relegation fodder on the verge of CL qualification... Am I living in some parallel universe?

Nope. Look at who they've been playing against. Clubs that I literally have difficulty situating, even in general terms, on the map of Europe. I'm not at all sure how some of them would fare in the Championship, to be honest.
If ever there were two tin pot trophies, it is now the Europa League and the Europa Conference League. Although I am, finally, convinced by the new format of the CL, when the third team in each group dropped down into the EL, it did kind of shore up the quality. Sometimes there was very little to choose between second and third teams in the group stage of the CL, in terms of quality. That's gone. The two competitions start with minnows and end with minnows. And it is probably a minnow from Trafford that's going to win one of them.
Maybe I'm biased, but it did seem to me that the old Cup Winners Cup had a gravitas to it that is entirely lacking in these two competitions.
