I was disappointed when we signed Walters at the time as the rumours were we were signing Chris Waddle but that disappointment was very short lived. Walters was outstanding at Rangers and later admitted leaving was a huge mistakeThanks for the correction, you obviously remember the era well.
Mark Walters was from Brum and he had a lot of respect from me and my wider family back in the day for making it as a professional footballer at Villa. Walters was an extremely talented wide player, I loved his style , Birmingham in the very late 70s / early 80s close to my heart, I remember the excitement of Walters breaking through at Villa, us kids playing footy on the cobbled streets were heady on the news of any West Indian player breaking through.
As an aside, do you have a copy of " Playing for Rangers "edited by Ken Gallacher. (1964)I'm just reading it now mate. Different days indeed.
I had several playing for Rangers by Ken Gallagher but not as far back as 1964. I remember one in the early 80s and John Greig was the manager and his final paragraph was rubbishing claims we were signing a young striker from Sunderland. The said striker had turned down two previous attempts by Rangers and won’t be getting a third chance. That young striker was Alistair McCoist. Fortunately Greig relented and did sign him. One of the few positives to come out of Greggs time as manager
