Europa League/Conference League Games | Week 1 | 21 Sept 23

One of the people reporting on the game for the BBC website said Athens had followed the tactics that worked for West Ham. I didn't watch it so I have no idea if that's true. In spite of a few good seasons for Brighton now, maybe teams in the premier league are still viewing them as "Little Brighton" and getting beat as a result. If they start setting up like they do against us things might go differently for them.
AEK certainly treated them like ‘Little Brighton’ by resting 7 first team players and still managing to score 3 goals against them!

I remember that TNS game. That was the indoor one in Wales where we won 5 nil and everyone was on their asses most of the game?

But the highlight of our season being Robinho scoring a last minute curler against FC Twente in a lower knock out round in the Europa league is not something to be going shouting to the rafters about.
We played polo on donkeys?

Ref in the Brighton game was apparently dodgy

Also missed this pen and then acted like he didn't want to give it on review:

Brighton are a good team but their lack of European experience is glaringly obvious here, madness they are being talked up as one of the favourites to win the whole thing
Lack of experience yes, playing James Milner right back WTF. Being 2nd fav at 7/1 i think its because of the premier league, wait until CL teams drop to Europa. Athens were 16/1 to win last night.

I guess so, but Brighton surprised me tonight. AEK aren’t better than most PL teams. Their video Analysis team will have watched AEK play as many times as each PL team they face.

It made me question if De Zerbi has the skills to tweak how they play to get a result.

Obviously it’s their first game in Europe, but that‘s not a reason to concede 3 to that lot.
I think the problem was the expectation of winning the game. Missing Dunk was a major problem. Igor debute and JPVH 4th start both at center back did not help. Milner RB, no way. 4 new players making first start of season.

At 2-2 i thought we were the only team that would win it, however a counter attack and deflection gave them the 3rd. They did look dangerouse when they did attack us though.

Enjoyed the experience just got soaking wet going home. Hopefully back to winning ways again on Sunday.

Not really, West Ham thus season and Everton last season put 10 in defense then hit us in the break, Athens went player for player and did not give us time on the ball.

They had their two centre halves out too though.

It is a bit weird, but playing in Europe for the first time is different and takes time to feel normal, despite it being just another game.

You've learned not to play Milner at RB now though.

Call that rain? Looked like a bit if light drizzle to me…

Whe Dunk is nit in the side it shows up so much how important he is. Our CB are new and young both 19 would have liked some experience in there.

Im telling you it was real rain, in one place it made a little puddle. I forgot Manchester is Renowned for its rain. You even get that white stuff called snow i think it is. Remember we are southern Softies, anything the other side of Creepy is Northern.

Going to settle down to watch Corrie with a sgandy, might even go all out and have a babysham.

You’re out of luck. Women’s football on ITV tonight.
