Eusebio

I only caught the very late stage of his career being to young for 66 and Portugal didn't get to Mexico in 70; but he was a wonderful Footballer.

Sorry to hear this news. I just might now forgive him for not putting that last minute chance away in the 1968 European Cup Final! A bit like that guy from Palace who kept the pisscan in a job!

i,m pretty sure portugal trained at city,s old park road site in cheadle
i was 8 at the time and went to brookhead school wich backs onto the pitch there, i remember watching some world cup team training there ,can anybody else confirm this ?

I can't remember for certain but it's quite likely as their group games were held in Manchester and Liverpool, along with Brazil, Hungary and Bulgaria so they'd have used the training facilities of the local senior clubs.

Toffee Balls said the same thing on page 2, so it looks like you're right.

VERY VERY SAD
A truly wonderfully gifted player and gentleman a very humble man who didn't spend the next 30 years telling everyone how good he had been HE DIDN'T HAVE TO! in my top 5 of all time R.I.P my friend and thanks for the memories.

Always very sad when a true great of the game dies especially when I grew up in the 60's when he was immense. I remember the 1966 semi final against Portugal, England won 2-1 Eusebio scored a penalty I think. RIP and may perpetual light shine upon you. God bless!!
