Eustacian Tube blockage /glue ear

Thanks, mate. We are both sat here like a couple of idiots running through those exercises.

No clearance yet, but my daughter says she felt her ears crackling a bit inside during those exercises so you may be onto something there.
That's a good sign! I remember feeling some crackling too. Just stuff loosening up. I found myself sat there doing them a few times a day and it eventually helped.

Has any body suffered from this?

I’ve had blocked ears a few times, but it’s usually wax-related.

After a flight over Christmas, my daughter has had an ear infection and is down to a very low level of hearing.

The doctor says that it will clear up over time, but naturally my daughter is getting a bit panicky 10 days after the flight and no improvement in hearing. She’s currently breathing in steam / using water with menthol but so far no improvement.

Anybody got any experience of how long it takes to clear up or any suggestions?
I had tinnitus as part of having Covid, the first time I had Covid when it was that nasty delta variant, took a couple of weeks to clear.

Then funnily enough when I caught this nasty virus knocking about just before this Xmas just gone, I was convinced I had Covid again as I got tinnitus once more. Wasn’t Covid but I’ve had loss of hearing in one ear and infection in the tube for the last 4 weeks, gradually getting better, to the point where I’d say today for the first time I don’t hear the ringing and can hear about 90%.

Anyway, I wouldn’t worry too much yet, just giving heads up that it has taken me 4 weeks to get somewhere back to normal.

Thanks. It’s this kind of reassurance that my daughter needs. I appreciate it.

Just a quick update - over the last two days, my daughter has said that her hearing has gradually improved.

There has been no sudden pop where everything is suddenly OK, but she is hearing things at normal volume on the TV where she was struggling last week. She has been doing the exercises in the video that @twosips posted, and I suspect that, along with time and a bit of breathing in steam, have all helped.

Thanks again to everybody who replied - Blue Moon is a great place for entertainment/footy/music discussion etc., but it's also a great place for practical help.

Ah that's great news. I would suspect that it's helped defo. It just moves it all around and loosens it up! Dead happy for you both!

You may find that the hearing loss is down to swelling.
As the infection clears up the swelling will go down.
A lot of people think the hearing loss is down to wax. They mess with cotton buds which makes the swelling worse.
The swelling gives the impression of being underwater. Sounds are dull and you can hear your own body/head sounds directly.

The gradual resumption of hearing is a good sign the swelling is going down.

Yes, I think there’s probably a lot of truth in that.

I’ve had problems in the past, mild tinnitus and what feels like squelchy ears. Sometimes it is wax but a lot of the time it isnt.

And you are correct - cotton buds and ears don’t mix!

About 8 years ago I got a bad infection in my inner left ear, fluid built up with the eustacian tube blocked and I couldn't hear much. I went to the docs and they referred me to am ENT specialist. He said it would clear up on its own accord. It did eventually. But I was left with tinnitus. I went and saw another ENT specialist as I knew my hearing was down and he said the tinnitus and hearing loss was probably caused by the infection and the fact that my inner ear hadn't drained quickly enough and that he would have put in grommets. Obviously too late now as ive been left with tinnitus and only 30% of my hearing in my left ear. So my advice would be don't sit and wait go and see an ENT specialist ASAP.
