Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Well I guess we can look forward to the rest of the night listening to our fans slag us off. Please yourselves, but can somebody please make that "offside" rule make sense?
I called it immediately and said it should be a goal

According to IFAB Law 11 - Offside, a defender makes a "definite action" (deliberate play) to keep an attacker onside if they have control of the ball and attempt to pass, gain possession, or clear the ball, even if the action is unsuccessful or inaccurate. In such cases, an attacker previously in an offside position is considered to have received the ball from an opponent rather than a teammate, meaning they are not offside

Think tonight also shows how vital Rodri is in general, but especially to this group of players

We just cant get the ball moving without him. Bernardo tries his best, but hes just not forward thinking, and has to spend his time directing Guehi and Khusanov

Nico G just simply not good enough, and Kovacic cameo just shows our lack of depth and quality in central areas

Dias and Gvardiol probably walk back in when fit, purely because of their experience in these types of games, add Rodri to that and you can see what were missing at the moment

Some of them need to toughen up and realise that they've stepped up numerous levels to be here; some really poor performances from some that have felt the pressure for the first time

Disgraceful from us really. Their backline there for the taking and we decided at 1-0 to play tippy tappy and abandon everything that was working.

Guehi should be benched for that. Stones and Ake should be in now until it’s done. Needs leadership in there. He ain’t that especially next to the rest of our line.

Nice slippy performance from Kovacic. Jesus wept did nobody sort out the studs at halftime.

Nico G very poor.

Some character by Doku.

Fuck Oliver and fuck the league too.

Not the result any city fan wanted, but it could be a crucial point. The arse go to London stadium before spurs on monday, so we can only hope that west ham put in a premier league- saving performance, and take at least 2 points off the arse. If they do, it's game on! The fat lady hasn't sung just yet.

Happy that we fought back for a point, we could have easily just downed tools and gave up on it.

I'm pissed off that we didn't go for the kill to get the second goal and kill the fuckers off, we pissed about for large parts of that game instead of going for next goal.

It came back to bite us on the arse, we had warnings before the goal.

It's a young and inexperienced side and Everton stepped up their intensity and we crumbled. But the fight we showed to get a point is brilliant to see and we can use this experience in the future. We might still win the league, that's now unlikely in my opinion.

The second half was the one we've seen far too often this season. It's not about fitness that, it's "tactics". It's thinking the job is done and we can switch off. That's on Pep that - not the players.

I can take the Guehi mistake, it happens to anyone, but the 3rd was laughable - we were on the ropes and every time they went forward we looked so brittle it's untrue. We might moan about bus parking, but if you hit us on the counter we're brittle - how many times have we seen "1 shot, 1 goal"? It's laughable.

Doku was absolutely outstanding and I wish the other attackers had put the same effort in that he did. The lad scored 2 worldies and was constantly kicked from the first to the last minute. Donnarumma pulled off some great saves as well. I rate Semenyo, but we're playing him wrong at the minute and he looks very stale at the moment.

One big fucking bug-bear was the slipping. How and why were we slipping constantly? I don't remember them slipping at all but we were doing it every 2 minutes.

I still think there's more points to be dropped off either us or them so I'm not giving up, but at 0-1 up we should've pushed for the second to kill it off.

At this stage the point wasn’t good enough, even though we did well to come back. Arsenal can slip up now.
They can't yet risk losing a game though. A draw rather than a loss today makes a small but important difference (as things currently stand).

Imagine we had 2 dokus on both wings, Semenyo looks like hes dragging a boat behind him Savio no comment and Foden is crap this year.
I think its good to have a bit different player on the other wing, but it has to be better than our current options. Semenyo and Savinho could be good subtitions, not starting wingers for City.

for anyone saying the everton goal should be offside, id like you to consider the situation where guehi takes possession of the ball and then starts dribbling forward. when would you like the Everton attacker to be able to get involved in the play and not be considered offside?

Khusanov very young and Guehi new to City, they're just not used to this kind of test yet. They were always gonna have a night like this, just a shame it happened on the same night. People writing off Dias and Gvardiol, do so at your peril.

Definitely two points dropped but Doku's goal at the end there just keeps us alive and gives Arsenal a reminder that they're not gonna walk away with it. West Ham get a point, or win, next week and it's immediately back on. Over to them.
An all but relegated West Ham side are not going to suddenly rock up and beat Arsenal.

What a game!

Jeremy Doku and Erling Haaland, I salute you.

This isn't over.

Feel like this team is missing something , that final component. They can turn up in the big games against the top teams even in one off semi finals but its the consistency to go to lower teams in the table and not finish them off that's hurting us.

Poor disappointing performance.
But if we are being honest, we have not played like a league winning team all season. Miles away from the levels of previous successful seasons.
Let's just hope our recruitment team stops fucking around this summer and start signing top level players again, who actually makes us better right away. We dont need talents who only show up every other game, we need elite first XI players who deliver night after night.
Doesn't work like that. You can sign the best players in the world, doesn't mean they'll fit in or adapt to the league straight away, you can't just go to Tesco and pick one up. This is just the usual knee-jerk reaction after a result that didn't go our way.
