City need to get back to basics!

Far be it from me to tell the greatest football manager of all time what to do, but in my personal experience, when things aren't working, instead of trying to figure out where the problem is, I find that untangling & reconstructing everything from scratch always reveals where the issues lie & what needs to be done to resolve them.

I've said this before several times, & I'll say it again, City’s current formation & tactics have been figured out, so instead of trying to do things better without Rodri who made it work, we need to strip everything down & go back to basics, which is Pep's famed 4-3-3 with players sticking to the formation.

Until Bernardo's opener, both Lewis & Gvardiol played as full backs, & Everton were pinned back as they had zero space out wide to launch counter-attacks into. Things were developing nicely until the goal, but for whatever reason, Lewis moved back inside & Gvardiol became more advanced, which led to Everton springing counter after counter into the wide spaces vacated by our inverted full backs.

The inverted defender formation worked well when we had the best CDM at our disposal, but we can't keep trying to do the same thing game after game, leaving ourselves vulnerable to individual errors, when we're overrun in defence.

The time is nigh for Baldy to play to our current Rodri-less strengths & rebuild our confidence & form from the defence, forward. We still possess the tools, but we're not utilising them as effectively as we should.

The question going into the second half of the season? Is the perpetually over-thinking Baldy, a man for turning?
Good post. Agree totally about the inverted full back. It’s killing us attacking wise and defensively.

Noticed firdt half how we were holding width with the fullbacks and we did look better.

the target has to be champions league next season and a couple of buys with Dias fit and a striker option in the second half of the season should make it acheivable.

i assume that the exit of gundogan, ederson, and kev is a guarantee

the club should be working already to facilitate the exits of stones, walker, nunes and philips

Bernardo i would keep - his injury record is very good and he’s not that old.
The target is always avoiding relegation. This team wouldn’t survive a relegation fight.

Well, at this moment we are in very poor form, that's undeniable.
I'll take small hints of improvement.
I read that today 35% of our squad are injured. That doesn't include Kev, who is clearly not fit.
After a decade of winning, it must be demoralising to hit that wall. It is also true that we are missing a few natural leaders in Dias, Rodri, and Stones. Kev just isn't the same man either and Kyle has made such a mess of his life that I doubt others are looking to him.
Step by step.
Stop this KDB crap

HE IS FINISHED, HE IS NO MORE

HIS TIME IS OVER, GET OVER IT

We have no right to be the best team every season.

No point going on about injuries nor age or anything else. The team is shot to pieces and it’s the clubs job to rebuild it again.

Depending how that goes will determine the level we reach in the future.

It was an unbelievable winning run.
Thank you Captain Obvious;-)
